A podgy skunk gorged itself so much on bacon sarnies that it's had to be put on a strict veggie diet.

Mr Bumble's love of the pork life resulted in him ballooning to a dangerous 6.35kg (one stone) - double the ideal weight for a healthy skunk.

    Big Boy: Podgy Mr Bumble

He was having a swell time, but his clueless owners eventually handed their beloved pet over to the RSPCA when they realised they couldn't cope with his size.

At Tropiquaria animal park near Watchet, Somerset, his waistline has been put under strict observation.

A regime of vegetables, bananas and melon and two half-hour walks a day has resulted in Mr Bumble shedding the flab.

Park owner Chris Noisier told the BBC: 'We're now working on dieting him down to what he should be and clearly bacon butties are not a normal part of a skunk's diet in the wild.
'We're putting him on the vegetarian option at the moment. It's very much like a human weight-watching issue.

'He is getting to meet lots of new people so there's lots going on in his life and I suspect it's making up for the lack of his old favourite food.'

A skunk's natural diet in the wild mainly consists of carrion, insects, mice and a range of greenery.

The animals are native to North America, but have become popular as house pets in the UK.

If you do buy one: make sure you don't let it pig out!

Super Scooby is UK's 'biggest burger'

It's made up of four beefburgers, eight rashers of BACONNNN, eight slices of cheese, 12 onion rings and three types of relish.

Containing an artery-busting 2,645 calories, the 'Super Scooby' has been dubbed Britain's largest and most fattening burger.

More than a mouthful: A model poses with the Super Scooby burger

Its creator, cafe owner Nick Lomvardos, is convinced it is impossible to consume the meal in one sitting.
In fact he's so sure he's offering a free can of diet cola to anyone who can 'beat the beast'.
'None of our customers has ever been disappointed by the Super Scooby although no one has managed to finish one without help from their friends,' said the 42-year-old.
Super Scooby fan Luigi Armato tries to eat one once a week. 'You have to be a real man to eat one. They're delicious and I don't care about the calories,' he said.

The 10 burger, on sale at the Jolly Fryer in Filton, Bristol, stands 15cm (6in) tall and weighs in at 1.5kg (3lb 4oz) - the same as a family-sized roast chicken.
If that wasn't enough, it comes with a side portion of chips.
The meal contains 145 more calories than a man should consume in an entire day.
But health concerns haven't been completely ignored - the monster burger contains some salad.
It boasts two lettuce leaves and six slices of tomato... accounting for all of 29 calories.
