Good lord, they want an arm and a leg for that! D.R. does grow some of the finest coffee, but if I may recommend:
illyusa - Coffee - Category
It too is pricey, but not as bad as Monte Real. It is by far my favorite, and I'm about as snobbish on coffee as they come. I'm an espressoholic and a coffee pimp, but no I don't sell Illy myself, probably should. You can also find Illy in a Williams-Sonoma store, if you have one in your area.

Thanks. I should have said though that I had seen that one. That is a 3 OUNCE bag of coffee. Don't know what they are smokin' but it was CHEAP in DR. The beans are roasted with cocoa so it has a chocolatey velvet finish....
YUMMMMM
I live in the DR, I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't know much about this particular brand, but will try to get the local price for it and let you know if you can purchase it online from a local store.

I found one US roaster that uses cocoa in the roasting process, instead of adding oils. The price is fairly reasonable for a high-grade coffee.

Just sayin' ... how much was your son's tickets to and from DR.... Sounds like that bag of coffee was a couple hundred dollars to me. ;)
I live in AZ and all the time ppl say, "Drugs are so cheap in Mexico" ... yea sure, but the gas to get there and back is $100+ unless you live on a border town.
I guess my point is, I hope you find your coffee really cheap, but your son's entire trip was a hidden cost that you won't be able to re-capture from any vendor marketing it "internationally" I wouldn't think. <-- double negativo.
