How much do critics reviews and user comments influence your decision when choosing a new device?

Close to 100% I did alot of research into every phone I've purchased :p Don't wanna get stuck with a junk phone for the year :(
Critics - Sometimes. Depends on the critic
User comments - Never
I pay attention to the user comments only if there's a consistent complaint.
I too put dependence on who the critic is. For example if Rene Ritchie does a review on something even apple related, I'm all ears. But if you're talking BGR, I take it with a grain of salt.
Why not users? They should be the best judge shouldn't they?
Well only if the users all had the same needs I had for a device. Problem is, many users have needs or likes that don't matter like, phone looks too bulky or feels like a toy. Those type of user inputs won't mean anything to me.
User comments are trash.
Critic reviews are worse.
They're usually biased based on their fanboy status.
Because they're mostly enthusiasts. You're not going to get a biased, clear-cut
opinion most of the time.
But if I skim through user comments I usually look to see if there's a consistent
complaint specifically about something. That's all I can value.
That's a good point. The only problem I have with user comments is that I don't always know what they are comparing the phone to. If they have never had a smartphone or BB before, it is hard to gauge how valid their comments are.
Certainly not. I could be reading a user comment that gives something a
highly positive rating or a negative. For all I know that user could be a 14
year old without a clue, a person who is never satisfied with anything or
a massive fan boy type.
95% of the time I don't bother reading user comments. I do however trust the
perspective of quite a few people here and will always at least consider
their advice. But those are people who have demonstrated knowledge,
are mostly unbiased and have a good track record.
This is the exact way i feel... you'll have two people that set down and write a online review about cell phones 1) FanBoi, 2) 14 year old who is upset that his phone won't let him surf bigboobs.com because he didn't get the data package on his phone.
