Cool. I've got some Ferns growing near the edge underneath ofy deck. Should I pick them and eat them? The fact that the deck is 20 year old pressure treated wood makes me a bit leery.
Old pressure treated has arsenic or something like that, might have leached into the soil. Please don't eat those!

I lived in the Maritimes for a bit. Never had Fiddleheads there. Rarely had Lobster (which was apparently also the poor man's meal at one point) there either
If you lived in the Maritimes and didn't have fiddleheads then you lived in a cocoon.

Nope I didn't. And honestly, don't ever remember Fiddleheads being a big thing when I was there.

Time to upgrade the deck with some 70 year old treated wood.

Perhaps. Apparently, the early pressure treated green wood was heavily laced with zinc or something, and lots of municipalities and school boards had to tear down play structures.

...all the decks I have build over the years have been the green pressure treated stuff. I'll probably die someday from the sawdust.

Yes, that sounds right. Arsenic not Zinc. Makes me nervous whenever I have to crawl under my deck(s).

Just remembering: when I was first told this about 1996 the tale was that the most obvious manifestion was a nasty sore if you got a sliver off it so not (then) recommended for kids who slide around on stuff.

But otherwise fine: later-phase crapitalism only provides products (eg melamine in baby food) that are largely safe for those within the parameters (ie measurable aspects) of the sales based bell curve.

Those on the edge of the curve obviously don't make up a statistically significant proportion of test results.

When I hear a bell it doesn't make me think about an angel getting it's wings but rather the sound of a Bhanghead trying to sound like a carillon using it's head.

No the nickles stay there until there is at least 50 of them. Phones, pens, calculators and other stuff like that however normally results in a need for retrieval. Getting rid of a wasp nest is sometimes also a reason. For the one deck, periodic height adjustments is also a common reason.
