I always think of it and no different here as somebody winds me up.

Well the song lyrics are basically about gambling, and at a deeper level perhaps the downfalls of such risk taking or compulsive self behaviours. So, maybe there is some applicability to the overall situation.

I think a more accurate comparison would be something like:

"...until the freezing rain clears, we should drive way slower, drive with larger spaces between cars, make sure our seat belts and air bags are all working properly, or yes, overall consider not driving as much, since there is a higher risk of car accidents and therefore higher risk of more people dying, and with also higher risk of vulnerable people not fairing as well in car accidents. Will these mitigations impact our dailyife? Yes indeed. However, without them the highways are going to be a slaughter house and the emergency services won't be able to handle it."
Well, first, there’s no freezing rain in Florida that I’ve seen except about well ... ten years ago, but it wasn’t realistically a rain so it didn’t affect driving. LOL

I’m teaching my daughters to officially drive right now. I’m typical Florida driver. We drive 10-15 over in most places on average. There’s not a huge amount of speed enforcement. My daughters are taught right lane unless passing on all roads not just interstate.

I let my one daughter be my chauffeur last weekend for the forty plus mile trip down to Sarasota, on I-75 pretty much the whole trip. We tried 70 mph then 75 mph in the right lane. To keep with traffic and minimize lane changes, we ended up 80-85 mph in the middle lane. We passed three FHP, one down @ 80, two up @ 85 and no big deal.

The senior citizens here aren’t driving tested like other states for slowed reaction time or general awareness of surrounding issues. Due to higher percentage of seniors and driver’s license rights, we end up with higher rate of senior fatalities. One more thing we live with. Our highways are slaughterhouses here for those not focused.

I have multiple compulsive behaviors. I don’t gamble casino style much, but I gamble in my profession as retirement planner. We call it managing risk. In reality, I’m a professional business handicapper.

Tell me something chuck, why do we stay on the right lane? You know there is always someone driving way slower.....wouldn't the middle lane be more appropriate?

When there are signs that say " slower vehicles stay on right lane" does it mean slower than the speed limit or slower than someone going 85 on a 75?

They have signs somewhat like that in Canada also. Transportation is a provincial matter, so I'd have refer to what the traffic act actually says for each province. However, in Canada if one treats it as "relative slower" then one can't go wrong. Actually, they also have other signs sometimes in Canada that basically say "keep right except to pass" (meaning one always need to be driving in the right hand lanes unless passing).

Same here. I'm just one of those folks, when I'm in the engaging mood I guess you can call it, that will drive on the left lane at the speed limit or 5-10 more.
And love it when someone is up my butt expecting me to move out of there way like when moses was crossing the red sea and the waters parted ways.

Anyways, I don't think I have to move out of someone's way if they want to drive faster them me and I'm driving at the speed limit or faster. Let them weave in and out of traffic cuz if they are driving that fast many others will be in their way further ahead.

Yup, that's what it's about, and debates about what is better for some vs others vs individuals vs collective, and the risk being taken for reasons that people are in disagreement about, and the propaganda trying to be used to justify/rationalize different arguments.

Andas always there are those that say to stay off the right lane cuz in a merging ramp you want to give truckers and cars the ability to get into the flow . Am I right? Always gonna be debates of what's right or wrong.

My daily commuting is significantly reduced since the COVID-19 thing, but I would routinely have to drive in the left lane doing about 119kph passing a slower guy in the right lane doing about 105kph (speed limit being 100kph) and then these arses behind me p'd off cause they can't do 130kph. I have no patience for those arses.

Debates can go on and on from the most petty to life saving and common sense topics.
Why make cars they exceed 100 mph or more if it's not legal?
If bikers have a choice to not wear a helmet why not drivers when it comes to seatbelts?
    Shall I continue?
