Funny thing is, I'd never driven in Texas as a youth in icy/snowy weather, spent the next years of adulthood driving in San Diego, we had an ice storm two weeks after I returned to Texas, and dad asks me to come see why his truck wouldn't start from 25 miles away, all the way acroos Dallas. He was surprised I made it to and from his location, and it was slicker than teflon dog p00p.

Yep, lots of oil build up on the roads, and slick when it rains or with black ice.

We had the winter of 77-78, a major ice storm hit Big D during playoff season. We lived in the Grove, and had gone to my grandma's in Farmers Branch, and had to drive back while the storm was finishing up. It was a nasty experience, but Dad grew up in Ohio, and handled it well. The game was memorable because a fan in a snowman suit let a pocket warmer turn him into a screaming alpha blaze as he took off like a shot thru the stands. It was sooooo pretty...

Worst part is that you have to assume that anything that looks like a puddle or wet pavement is ice.
