Had to have a sit down with my coworker today and write him up bc 3 people complained about his attitude on Sunday (this is a growing trend the last 5 years ). He says they're all lying and he didn't do any of it, and doesn't seem to understand that we have to assume there's some validity to it, simply based on the number of similar complaints we've had.

So, a question to any other supervisors out there: How do you get a box of rocks to understand what you're saying?

I've yet to find the answer. I work with minors (under the age of 18) and this is a constant battle. No matter how often I show them the way it needs to be done they still screw it all up.

I keep a notebook and write down specific incidents in which I have to have conversations with subordinate associates.

I describe the situation, note what action was taken then the associate signs/dates then I sign/date then if any associates on my pay level or higher sit in then they sign as well.

I use this for minor incidents that require conversations rather than paperwork. It helps a lot. I've yet to bring an associate in the office more than once for the same offense.

I remember walking in the beautiful woods of Vermont and finding an old abandoned cabin in the middle of nowhere, Inside was like 40 years of National Geographic magazines, spanning from the '30s through the war years and so many accomplishments to the '70s, all in near new condition. Soon after, I was laid up with a busted leg which gave me occasion to read them all, yep 6 or 8 weeks of reading Nice memory
