I don't know what freedoms he is referring to. Here in Manitoba the restaurants and bars have reopened, stores have all reopened, nail salons, tattoo parlors. What we gave up to allow this to happen was and is to physically distance, no large groups of people. Heck masks aren't even mandatory. And, yes we haven't had a new case of Covfefe-19 in the last 4 days and we have a hospital caseload of ZERO. Is that the zero-sum he was referring to? If we were stupid enough to go to North Dakota (we can't because we closed the border) for a population half of ours there has been 12 times the number of cases, 30 times the number of active cases and 11 times the number of deaths. And North Dakota is looked on as being in good shape as compared to other States.
I’m sure our healthcare workers will be happy to hear that. They have to treat everyone. Regardless of how stupidly or selfishly they “enjoyed their freedom”. Now if this “enjoying their freedom” crowd agreed not to go to the hospital when they become ill or not to allow anyone that they get ill while they were “enjoying your freedom” then I might agree with you.

The US has become ground zero for this virus. It is growing too fast for our hospitals.

It’s simple. If you choose to blatantly ignore the public health don’t go to the hospital. You’re free to be sick alone or with those foolish enough to be in your life. Don’t ignore the good of the community and then come crawling back to the community and beg it to care for you.
But I'm following all the regulations. We're only going out where possible to social distance. Again, the sick and the elderly have these same health risks during flu season.

I'm not going to beach with large crowds. I'm at the HOA pool with appropriate guidelines

That’s great. You’re protecting yourself and your community. No issue with that.

My RN first wife doesn't share that belief. Her exposure to all kinds of infectious diseases is the same now as before. I've had SARS from her 10-12 years ago while the MRSA was a gift to husband 2.0 about 5-6 years ago.

Unfortunately, people die everyday. Seriously, look how many die from the flu everyday. If ANYBODY wants to avoid the risk of dying, you stay inside. Don't ride or drive a car. Don't cross busy streets on foot. Don't get cancer.
Its all about risk and mitigation. People ride in cars and walk on streets even though there is still a risk they will get killed, because mitigations are in place to keep the risk low enough (wearing seat belts, other drivers needing to be licensed to drive, sidewalks normally a certain distance away fro speeding traffic, etc..). For COVID, if mitigations are used (stay away from crowds, physical distance, wear a mask) then the risk can also be low enough.

Enjoy our freedoms that others don't have.
I am not sure how many freedoms you guys really have beyond what most other western and democratic countries also have.
