I cant help you with that since I'm not paranoid.
So I've heard. I'm collecting advice and recommendations for keeping my new phone from being a spy machine for Google. So far the sheer number of things I've been told to turn off or disable is daunting.

Yeah, my Apple friends are a combination of "Thank GAWD you're finally getting rid of that toy!" and "You're crazy not to just get an iPhone, you don't need all those buttons!"

I know Yama knows his stuff. Every so often he climbs out from under the Shed-Bo and says something insightful. *muah!*

Yama knows what he’s talking about. I left BB10 awhile ago and went to android and then iOS. My Z10s kept dying on me and I finally had to get something else because I use my phone for everything work and personal. It’s my main computer and I couldn’t have it dying on me. Anyway after a couple Android years I got frustrated with the bugs I had and went to Apple. Very happy with apple to be honest. Much like I used to be with BB. So, the end point is he would know better than I.

The LE has Android 8.1 on it, and it's anyone's guess if it will ever get an upgrade to 9, much less 10. So I'm not going to worry about that for now.

And yeah, I know the Hub isn't quite the same as the BB10 Hub (thus my curiosity about Zinqs). My gut says not to change everything at once until I understand how the OS works. So I'll first see what I can get used to, and what still drives me crazy after a month or 2.

Verizon stopped supporting its BB10 app (which I really only used to view my bills) about 2 years ago, so I haven't a clue what Messages+ is. I guess I'll find out.

I had the BlackBerry launcher on my Pixel 3 XL. Worked just fine for about 9 months. Things didn't work too well with Android 10 for some reason so I went to the standard Pixel launcher. Hub works just fine it. Just remember that the Hub isn't really a Hub like BB10 anymore. Everything is still in one place but you will need use a separate text app. Rags, I'm also on Verizon and I use the Verizon Messges+ app in addition to the Facebook messenger.

Verizon Messges + is a text messaging app. There are a few messaging apps that are popular. Textra is another. I do a fair amount of texting and the Verizon app works great for me.

Well I don't understand how that could happen. My retirement comes straight from Uncle Sam so I'll let him deal with Google.

The feds are hands off with identity theft unfortunately. But in all honesty I think you’re fine...not that you asked. Just don’t give google a free pass. Be careful. Same with Facebook. I’m not on Facebook or instagram but they don’t give a shot about your data and identity either. Happy holidays!

You're in the majority, that's for sure. I've been a privacy activist since long before that was a thing. I spent years teaching people how to BCC email addresses in group emails, and chewing out friends and family who exposed my personal contact info without asking permission first. In those days, Google's motto was "Do no harm."

    I just don't care.

Thanks - good to know. I text more now than I used to (my acquiescence to a generation who grew up without speaking on a telephone...) and i've been using whatever Verizon made available. It works well for both MMS and SMS, I can send/receive pictures, etc, so no complaints.

My sister's Android phone on TMo doesn't do MMS correctly - whenever she replies to several of us, it looks as if she only replied to me. I imagine the rest of the group thinks the same, since we end up sharing her replies around, only to discover that we ALL got them the first time. I asked her about it once and she said it's something about the way texting works on her phone, but I always suspected her carrier was to blame. (She also isn't interested enough to delve into getting it fixed, so whatEVrrrrrrr lol)

There's this from the NYT also. I wasn't surprised that phone pings were easily trackable, but I was surprised at how easily the journalists were able to identify and contact individuals by name. (Long article but worth the read.)
