I learned it. Difference was I wasn’t forced to go to socialist public school. Florida public schools, at least in my county, really suck....
Why? You don't want to pay taxes perhaps??

I'm so fortunate that I grew up during the time that the Church relinquished its control of the schools in Quebec and instead of having schools that groomed you to be a farmer and have 12 children to keep the Church coffers full, the government of the day stepped in to reshape the education system.

I benefited from this tremendously. Mandatory subjects: Power Mechanics, Machine Shop, Electricity, Sheet Metal, Woodworking and even plumbing. Sure we still had our Language, Math, Gym, Geography and so on.

Yes I wired the basement of my first house, I've rebuilt a lawn mower engine.
    Pretty idyllic I think.

The culture of Florida has always been that majority doesn’t support paying more taxes since there’s so much perceived corruption and mismanagement. Until 30 years ago, Florida was thought of as Southern Democrat state and like other Southern locale states, traditions were set 150 years before.

Since our state was sparsely inhabited the first 100 years until growth really began in the 1950’s, our government structure is broken.

Huge areas of the population aren’t in cities, just counties. Unincorporated areas that just plod along....minimum getting done. Senior citizens vote against higher taxes. Primary residences are up north for many.

It’s a weirdly structured type state. But us locals, know the system, good and bad. Catholic schools, Christian schools and charter schools are taking students from the district since many parents now realize there’s no fixing our public schools. My sister is a big time public school administrator in state of Illinois and she even concedes that we’re doing on her mind the lesser of evils with all our kids. According to her, our school district would be 5-6 districts in other states.

    Why don't you move?

Here's the High School I went to. 3 full size gyms, 3 cafeterias 4000 students. All shops on premises.

Why? To where? The system is broken, yet we’re outside the system. We’re Floridians doing what so many Floridians do.

I’ve learned over twenty five years of doing this with three older kids and our last two remaining that problem is common in largest USA states, California, Texas, Florida and New York but worst here in Florida but that’s life. I tell everyone, if you move to Florida with kids, build private or charter schools into your money or time budget.

Just without the government. Instead we have private corporations running many things instead of government. Like Texas, some prisons, schools and hospitals...

That as sure as hell is a recipe for disaster! What made Canada's experience during the baby boom exceptional is that the Federal Government made money available to the Provincial and Municipal Governments at the same rates that the Banks paid the Government to borrow money. The money had to be earmarked for public infrastructure and as such removed the Banks greedy hands off the money.

Yeah, that's what my brother said. He lives down here too, and was a bit upset that we brought this with us. Apparently, someone at the Post Office leaked our forwarding address.
Sleep well, Mother Earth still thinks that you are in North Carolina... stay where you ;-)

Well, as of a few minutes ago it appears that Dorian may stay just off the coast. That would be good. Won't know for sure until probably Monday or so. Trouble is that it would stay stronger, longer but it's better to be on the West side of the storm than the East.

So we're all aware of Dorian, but there was a Dorian that I knew personally. We worked together back in the nineties and one weekend he invited me and my family to spend the weekend at his cottage at the lake. On arrival I found out that his mother was a part of the deal. I can still hear her..."Dorian did you take your medication? ". No beer or smoking allowed in the cottage and our dog would have to stay outside. Things got worse when he ended up giving me a sales pitch on joining the fraternity of Odd Fellows. Yes he was one for sure and eventually became the Grand Wizard eventually in Manitoba. Well we did not sleep well and I put a plan in action by getting the family up, dressed and out at daybreak to go fishing. We did, we caught a catfish and then returned to the cottage to say our goodbyes because we had to go home to fry the fish.
Weird stuff, but even worse that catfish just wouldn't die, baseball bats, clubs and eventually into the freezer overnight. Took it out of the freezer next day to defrost and the damn thing started moving again. Hurricane Dorian has nothing on my Dorian story.
    Quite the story lol

What natural occurrences are you referring to? A hundred years ago we didn't have a billion gas burning cars driving around. It takes 15 lbs of air (picture that) to burn 1 gallon of gasoline. Then replace that 15 lbs of air with CO2 and other nastiness.
I think it's both. The earth has been thru many changes over the billions of years and it's going to continue to. One of these days a big asteroid is going to hit again. Not a question of if but a question of when.

I'll give credit to Trump's team for making that phrase (fake news) a household term, but it's been going on for years and it's not limited to the US (and ironically, in my opinion, there is more fake news coming out of the folks that are complaining about fake news than anyone else).
