    Oak is very common in the forests here. We also use oak for flooring and furniture-making. Most of the people I know with fireplaces burn pine though.

    I was in New England once and was amazed people used oak for fire wood. On the Pacific side, hardwood is a valuable commodity. I bet it burns for ever

    Just stuff the old dried out Xmas tree into the fireplace. Make sure everyone else is out of the house to witness the flame coming out of the chimney after you light it up! Family fun. You may also be looking at moving.
