OH! I finally found where to turn them off! It's not in General Settings. There's a new settings area called... I need to look on my PC - hang on a moment while I look again.

OK, go to Settings, scroll down to "User Tagging" (silly place for it but there it is). You'll see a long list of things related to user tagging and alerts etc, but towards the bottom you get settings to turn off all the quote and mention emails! It worked - I turned it all off and now I get no more annoying emails!
