    Hi guys, here is my:

    eBay Scam Story!

I'm going to be detailing my story of how some "Mike Roberts" tried to rip me off, and I'll make all his posts in red, and I'll be putting the funny parts in bold. So it was my second attempt to sell my 8830 on eBay, and this time it was bought by this user:

    Location: CA, United States
    Buyer email address:mikeroberts501@yahoo.com
The second that the auction ended and he was the winning bidder, he sent me the following message:

    Dear,

    Hi There,

Am happy to be the winner of your item,i will like to inform you that Am making this purchase for my Son as a surprise birthday gift,

However,i need you to get back to me with your paypal email as i need to verify your paypal status to get assured that you are a verified paypal member before i can send you the money,So please get back to me with your paypal email so as to continue with the transaction.

Hope to read back from you soon

    - mike501mike
My PayPal account isn't linked, so I thought it was a valid question, so I send him a message on eBay with my PayPal account and then I get another message from him:

    Dear ,

I have checked your status and see that you are verified so i had sent the shipping address to the provided email so please check and confirm as i will send the payment immediately.

    Thanks for the business.
So I'm waiting for the email, and I see I got a new email in my "Spam" folder, and I click on it and see it's from Mike Roberts, so I open it up:

    Dear seller,
I'm committed to buy your item and to let you know that i m sending the item to my Son who presently in one of west Africa country,Nigeria on missionary program i will be adding $100 for the handling and postage to his current address because i want the item sent Via USPS(Express Mail Service)first class delivery USPS{EMS} this is address bellow.

    NAME:Balogun Azeez
    ADDRESS:NO 50 Ambassador's street,
    CITY:Ilorin
    STATE:kwara
    ZIP CODE:24001
    COUNTRY:Nigeria.

    Thanks for the business
Which he followed up with ANOTHER message to my email:

    Mike Robert to me,
show details 3:37 AM (4 hours ago)
I just want to inform you that i had sent you the money via paypal so i want the package shipped and get back to me with the shipment info once the package had been posted.

Once again here is the shipment info:

    NAME:Balogun Azeez
    ADDRESS:NO 50 Ambassador's street,
    CITY:Ilorin
    STATE:kwara
    ZIP CODE:24001
    COUNTRY:Nigeria.

It's really great doing business with you.
    Keep me posted
Then I start getting emails saying that I was paid for the item, but I look at my PayPal account and I don't see any money in there. So I looked at the two emails I got from PayPal "<service@paypalapprovedfund.com>", and eBay "eBay <shoppingworld@usa.com>". I'll highlight the funny parts of the message - and keep in mind that these emails had various font sizes, and colors, I'll post them at the end of the post. :P

    What can I do?
I didn't send the phone or anything, but I want to get him in some kind of trouble besides for leaving him a bad feedback, and eBay most likely doing nothing. Can I get my listing fee back? What is my best course of action now? Thanks to anyone who read through the whole thing.

You contact ebay and paypal by forwarding your messages to the following:

    spoof@ebay.com
    spoof@paypal.com

You can also forward this to your attorney general.

Then, make sure, for the fun of it, try and play along and get this story posted on 419 Eater - The largest scambaiting community on the planet!

Please try and get him to take some funny photos....just like these:

I think it's hilarious. Obviously the biggest clue is the extremely poor knowledge of the English language. Second is the fact that his name is supposedly Mike Roberts, yet his supposed son's last name is Azeez. Really? The real clincher is the Nigeria shipping request. When I was selling stuff on Amazon, I routinely got such requests. It really is comical.

That said, there's nothing you can do to him. He's operating out of some internet cafe in Nigeria. Yes, eBay will probably shut his account down, but I guarantee you he has more than one and will have another one within minutes.

Since you have his address though, why don't you send him a little something else instead? Print out a picture of your Blackberry and put it in a box. Maybe sending a rotten banana or something. I'd have a little fun with it.

They're on ebay too? If I could get ahold of those guys I'd punch them in the face, total scumbags.
It helps of you put on the listing that you won't ship out of the US/North America.

Definately check out the 419 sites on the interwebz. They have some fun ideas, but you could also send him an actual blackberry (the fruit kind) and reverse the postal charges so that he will wind up paying for a rotten piece of fruit.

Mannnn I went through this with the (attempted) sale of my BB 9000. Every time I'd report the guy as a scam artist, he'd get a new account and bid on my re-list. Cost me $24.00 in listing fees just to sell the damn thing four times over. Felt like I was being stalked! Eventually got pissed off, deleted my e-Bay account, sold the 9000 on Kijiji and have no plans to ever use Ebay again.

I noticed on other people's listings they'd write warnings at the bottom about "will not ship to Nigeria, we know about your scam". I contacted a few of those sellers and they had the same stories...must be a recent (and very large) ring.

I definitely feel sorry for you bud...that was SO AGGRAVATING!
