I don't see what's so funny. I would agree more with BGR's title than Engadget's.
It was a solid quarter, especially in this economy. They made more revenue this quarter than last quarter. That would qualify as solid to me. And they're up in both Q1 & Q2 over the same last year. Again, qualifies as solid to me. As does 3.3 billion in profit. They could have done better and had some net loss, but not it was a solid quarter.
It looks to me like the two authors had different takes but both reported the same facts. Don't see much funny about it. Also I'm not sure how Motorola's Q2 results qualify as "BlackBerry News & Rumors"..
Net loss, they made a net loss and everybody thinks Rim is dyeing.

They didn't post a $3.3 billion profit in the quarter. They actually lost $56 million. The $3.3 billion is "net revenue," which can be loosely translated to simply "revenue."
Thank you! Amazing how BGR portrays it isn't it? Never mentioned E Schmidt using blackberry, or new Facebook V2.0 or BBM6, everybody else did, Engadget too.

And they made the loss with a Free OS.

They were forcasting losses for quite awhile. This was part of the reason for the rumor that Moto was developing their own OS. The thinking was they couldn't make enough off an OS used by so many manufacturers. The only way to differentiate their product was with hardware. Anyway that was the rumor.
No, they didn't make 3.3 billion in profit. Profit means after all their overhead how much they actually get to keep. Revenue just means how much they have sold. BGR makes it sound as though they had a solid quarter, when overall they actually lost hundreds of millions of dollars.
maybe they should change the name of their website into BNSGR?
Boy Not So Genius Report?
Agreed, I misread, too fast. My point was that Moto is up in some ways so it's not all bad. 1st, their profit was higher in this quarter than the last. That equals solid. Motorola Solutions profit more than doubled to $349M. Government sales grew 4 percent to $1.3 billion, while Enterprise sales grew 11 percent to $747 million from a year ago.
Did they lose some money? Yes. however in comparison to last quarter, Q2 was definitely solid. I'm not going to get into them and comparing RIM to them. But there is definitely a case to be made that they had a solid quarter as a company. If you'd like to compare the two we can, but Moto has more than just smartphones so it's not so even in what's getting compared.
Whatever way you want to spin it, a loss is a loss, sorry. Motorola Mobility that is and with a free OS. Compare it with the crap Rim is getting in the media and it's obviously disproportionate.
Do you really expect legitimate news from bgr?
