If anyone has seen this show you would know that the traveling duo use their mobile devices a lot on the show. As of the new year they are using IPhones instead of their Bolds. If I were running RIM those three would have new Bolds along with Playbooks. Every episode demonstrates the importance of communication and now that business function previously held by BB has been replaced by Apple. If someone from RIM would have reached out to the pickers their value of exposure would have greatly exceeded anything they are currently promoting.

You are assuming they would compromise their business effectiveness (in their opinion) for $1500 of free phones and tablets.

You know Apple isn't paying them to use iPhones. Why did they switch. Would RIM be better off addressing that, or trying another promo?

Product placement is BIG business! We have no idea what went on behind the scenes and caused them to make the switch. Perhaps APPLE, or one of the carriers gave them free ipones to switch, MAYBE they are getting product placement money. Perhaps they WERE getting that from RIM in the past. MAYBE they just decided to make a change on their own? Who knows?

Could be fun discussing it, BUT lets keep it light hearted and fun.

Here's an interesting story, one of the first cases of product placement came in 1982, and did NOT involve the company paying money. Previous to the movie E.T. what directors would do would be to use look alike products, or cover up the names of products when they were seen on camera. But for E.T, and the famous Reeses Pieces scene, Spielberg wanted to use a known candy and he approached M&M Mars Co for permission to use M&Ms but they said no, so then he asked Hershey's if he could use the lesser known Reeses Pieces. The movie was a smash hit, Reeses Pieces sales went thru the roof, and M&M Mars is STILL probably kicking themselves for saying no! Fast forward to today and companies now pay money to have their products in movies and TV shows. (or give free product)
