Already have 2 of your last options.

When I put the battery on in doesn't show anything on the readout ( it should show the level of power remaining )
When plugged into wall it doesn't do anything.
( I kept it in all night to make sure )

Also in device there is no red led or anything else happening.

Btw , battery was 2011.
Had it for a year.

Today I decided try my AT&T Bold 9900 again. I'm happy to report that it's running perfectly this time around! Looks like it just took some persistance. :-)

I hate that if I turn my passport completely off, the battery will still drain to zero while doing nothing in a drawer.

I love that if I take the battery out of my 9930, it'll still be ready for use at any time with no discernible loss of battery juice.

And that battery, with my level of usage, still lasts me days. A whole week, even, sometimes.

I received my New in Box 9900 today...the box is still shrink wrapped. How can I tell when it was made? The only date I see on the box is a AT&T copyright of 2012. Could this be one of the 2014 re-releases?

Got it for $99 on eBay and the seller included a new leather swivel holster. Can't wait to get it activated!

My burner android phone disagrees with that. When off, nothing happens.

My old cdma phone turned on just fine after 3 years of zero usage with near full battery.

But something about the passport, I dunno... it consumes battery no matter what.

Lithium ion batteries are also supposed to be more affected by age than useage. Typically losing about 20-25% efficiency every year. If that's true then LI batteries should only last a few years before they have to be replaced. But I also had my original 9780 battery defy logic and it lasted for 6 years, BUT it would drain a lot faster than when batteries are newer.

Probably also depends on the size of the battery and smaller JM1's probably MIGHT show their age more than say.....a 3000 Mah Android glass slab.

I got a white pouch when I got the 9780, never really understood where or when I would use it. I always viewed it as a "pain in the arse" obstacle when I had to quickly answer or make a phone call

I do however like the belt clip holsters in winter, under a jacket but in summer I wear cargo shorts/pants and that's where it goes......

If the original box there should be a double digit for the year and a month, if I recall from the box I had always kept from my 9780. It will be near where it says "Mexico 4" or whatever plant it was made......

According to this a lithium ion loses about 5% every day from self discharge even when turned off from what I understand, but then other articles mention you can store a lithium ion battery for about eight or 10 years if put two about 50%. If it's charged to 100% and then stored, supposedly that could damage it. So who knows. I guess other things like temperature could affect it also…quality of the materials, etc

My point to Nguyen was that there IS SOME DISCHARGE. He said there was none.

All of my devices even my point-and-shoot cameras with lithium ion batteries when completely shut off still discharge a little.

Also since I mentioned that some batteries can last 8 to 10 years just from sitting and not discharge too much, (from the article) this means we are both not "wrong" in these observations.

Supposedly batteries from the factory are stored with about 40 to 60% full because they anticipate they will be sitting on a shelf before purchased for weeks or months and you don't want battery damage. Some of the batteries I have got for the 9900 have been the red x, and depleted so bad that some cannot be recovered. Since they usually don't ship batteries completely empty, The fact that some are beyond recovery proves there is a level of discharge.

I guess the best thing to do is just charge up loose batteries periodically, even if not in use. Better safe than sorry.

I'll rue the day when there are no more working replaceable batteries for our beloved legacy devices.

Never suffered a scratch from keys or money etc. The magnet function on BlackBerry holsters are great at prolonging battery life, auto -ending -answering calls etc. This pocket case has also protected my earlier 9900 from several substantial drops, perhaps not as significant as those handed out by idssteve but bad enough to dink & dent the chassis, or worse.

What works for one will not necessarily suit all and I accept that others may prefer alternative (or no) cases on their 9900s

We have a place called battery boys and supposedly they can custom make any battery if you give them an old one. Supposedly very expensive but possible :-)

Oh yeah for sure I could see it if it's in like a backpack or something or a bag you definitely want something to protect the keys. Yeah I like them naked. I have that official BlackBerry softshell case and it just doesn't have the same feeling, and I never have a problem with the 99 wanting to slip out of my hand.

Hmm weird. Maybe the existing PRD number can be googled and you might get some information for a date.

Yep, strange. the PRD is 39473-101 which is the AT&T 9900 model RDE70UW which is correct for the 9900, but would like to find the built on date. Would searching the SKU number help?

Not sure. I wish I had the original box for mine, but of course I bought it used.

Have you done the "BUYR" test on your 99 yet? It just shows total useage measured in Days, Hours, minutes and seconds........

Click Device, Service Status and type BUYR, (with Caps held) then scroll down to get the total useage the device has. This will confirm if the device was possibly refurbished or used, etc. It's also just interesting to try.
