Storm 2! That's a rarity these days. Contrary to popular belief, it's a great phone, although SurePress does make your thumbs tired after a while.

Yeah and even more unbelievable is the fact he said all he ever had to do with it is get a new battery, and the first one lasted 4 years! He let me try the keyboard, I could definately hear a click. Then my other buddy with an iphone tried it and he thought you just had to touch it like an iphone but some physical effort is required.

OS5. Decent camera on it for a 3.2 MP. Speaker was LOUD playing vids, but a pretty chubby little fat device though.

It still connects to Telus's CDMA network too, which I remember them saying they were shutting down a few years ago. It seems that they must have shut down the data but not the voice network. They'd probably look at you sideways if you went in and tried to activate at this point.

It's in great condition, but I only have 1 and worry that double typing might appear since I use a keyboard that provides a more island like kb experience. I recently bought two 9720s for their kbs, on the go data entry & pim. My purple friends should last a while as I shop for another 9900 to add to my stable.

I'm not sure why you want another 9900 since you have one? Am I to understand you have the double typing issue in the one you have or you are worried you might hit 2 keys at once?

I say give it a shot and test the KB out, you should see if you have the issue.

Sorry, made a typo in my post. My favorite soft silicone case covers the keyboard. I worry the extra pressure needed to make the case press the keys might age the keyboard faster. I want a spare 9900.

Actually I like hearing any "negatives" also (don't exist) for the 9900 (don't exist) because it's good to know why we love this device (it's perfect) and how to compare to others (9900 is best) kind of like test driving many cars before settling on one.

But in all seriousless, I'm curious about (and maybe anyone can answer this) How similar the TrackPads function between the 9900 and the Classic.

For example you mentioned that the Classic is less dependant on the Trackpad, I think.

Auto on, Auto off. I have never used that and I can't even remember where I saw that in the settings but I seem to recall it. Why not just set to Silent? I suppose if one is not charging the device all night, with auto off you don't have to worry about battery drain, or whatever. Personally I leave mine to "Phone Calls Only" and it sits on the pod charger all night. I don't ever want to be completely cut off from the world if an important call comes in, even if it is at 3 am or some emergency, etc.

Through a weird and very unpleasant twist of fate, 2 of my 9900 have died. One from my own fault (the one I wrote that I threw against the wall had a bent frame and I tried twisting it back in place without disassembling it first - stupid, I know - snapped the motherboard - and I had important documents on it....) and the other today, with no sign of prior warning. I went out and first the touchscreen refused to work. I figured a battery pull would do the trick, but upon insertion I was greeted with a red flashing LED. I had 2 batteries and an external one, none seem to make it boot, BBSAK and Desktop Software don't recognize it... I'm very sad. I was thinking about getting a Classic (the first was for my mother), but that would be an unexpected and somewhat unwelcomed expense at the moment. I'm pretty bummed by this, as the Passport is not exactly outputting music as loud as the 9900 and I'm left with just that. I still have a 9780 that works and I'll probably switch the sd card into that, but I miss the 9900 as I barely got used to it. I don't think I will buy another unless I find a super good deal, as the Classic, as hated as it might be by some here, is more future proof than the Bold and it looks and feels more premium and modern (at least to me). What can I say? I tried to read about methods of revival and I certainly tried some of the most popular, but so far, at least for the time being, no more 9900 for me

Hmm, well I was just telling someone in the BBM group that they could also consider (and search out in kijiji or Ebay/Amazon) the 9790. I had one for about 4 months, unlocked and LOVED that thing until mine developed some sort of compatability issue with the later versions of 7.1 and I gave up and sold it. But it has a slightly less powerful processor compared to the 9900 (1.2 Ghz vs 1 Ghz) and should be as capable as the 9900.

But I think the 9790 was not as common? I know it was released about 5 months after the 9900 came out in August 2011. Beautiful keyboard on the 9790 AND it had that amazing Auto Focus camera that could do closeups of your fingerprints if need be, unlike the 9900.

Yeah, the 9780 was my first BB, but you give up 50% slower processer speed on it and who knows if many apps still function on 0S6. I wonder if anyone is keeping tabs on those apps.

Until about 6 months ago I was using a 8900, and I can confirm that a os 4 not much works lol,

I'm now using a Q10 which I purchased, and that's been brilliant, and best thing is, there is no hour glass!!

Classic is NO substitute for 9900 but it is my second favorite BB ever. And my favorite BB10. Fwiw. It gets used about 10% of my 99. IMO, Classic is oversized, overweight, lacks swappable battery, lacks charging contacts (Qi, tho) lacks convenience key, and BB10's tool belt implementation still lacks the 99's eager to please refinement. All said, tho, Classic's tool belt, even crudely implemented, manages to more than make up for its other handicaps by making Classic THE single handed master of BB10, imo.

9900 still reigns as unchallenged master of single handed competency, period. imo.

Classic's toolbelt makes it WAY more single handed friendly than the smaller non-toolbelt Q10, imo.

I don't get "mobile" phones these days. I was just perusing for new phones (shhhhh... don't tell my 9900) and realized even what is considered a "compact" phone these days has a display that is even larger than the entire 9900 itself!

It's a nice, compact design. I happened to be fondling my Passport SE the other day and realized my hands telling me it gave me a similar "feel" as my 9900. Just too big is all...

I think my 9900 will sit in my pocket a while longer.

Hahaha yeah, the 99 is like the sub-compact model now. I 100% agree with this!

I just commented a thread about how for light duty (and even some heavy duty) the 9900 is absolutely capable including heavy social media, blogging, emails, Instagram, etc. and we KNOW this because we use it.

I don't think I want to lug a massive Classic around and often I don't bother using the belt holster. My test is if I can have it in my front pocket and bend over to tie a shoelace and it doesn't rupture my spleen, IT PASSES! The 99 is perfect, but even my tall thin 4-inch iphone miserably fails this simple test. I am betting the Classic would fail too and I would be walking with a lop-sided limp all day long

I should add that I will still be using the 9900 despite the fact that ios10 has a new feature I have wanted for my iphone for a LONG time. If you go to settings, Phone, you will see a new tab in ios called "Call Announce" (If I recall) I set it up on my buddies iphone. And it does just like it implies, you get a call, the iphone will ring ONCE, then will say the first name of the person calling, then every other ring after that will be as before, normal rings.

I like that feature because say you are driving, or on the otherside of the room and you get a call, it's more of a convienience feature than anything but I would definately find it useful.

I seem to remember trying out an app on my 9780 called "Drive Safely" or something that would announce calls or read your messages back to you but no idea if that's still active or around anymore.

Nope, just cannot give up this compact form factor and crisp KB now no matter what ios dazzles before me.

What tools I need to replace the keyboard in my 9900? I mean screwdriver TORX? But what number?

I have 3 extra Bold 9900 as a gift from IT guys from my company in super conditions - but in one the trackpad is faulty - click works, but moving left-right and up-down doesn't...
Do I need only to replace the trackpad or I need to find the full keyboard with toolbelt?

You need the torx T-5. Oddly both of mine are labelled T-5 but there are 2 different sizes. If I recall the smaller size with the black head is for the keyboard and the other is to remove the screen.

The trackpad was part of the keyboard.

Yep, in some not distant enough future, I won't be surprised to see super sized "mobile" devices supplied with wheels for transporting and step ladders for reaching "send"!! Lol.

On the topic of compactness: there really is something to be said about being able to carry around a device small enough to fit in your pocket without having to wear MC Hammer pants, yet powerful enough to out-type and outlast (via swappable battery) even the fanciest flagships of the day.

Although I am not using a 9900/9930 as my daily driver (blasphemy, I know), I am using a Q10, which is only very slightly taller than the 9900/9930. And I do still have my brand new 9930 which I bought new-sealed-in-box and used only a couple weeks. I will never sell it, although it lacks a couple software features I absolutely need, which is why I'm on BB10. But I digress.

I do miss having toolbelt, but I love the swappable battery. The Q10 is the only BB10 phone with a physical keyboard AND swappable battery.

I love the Q10 form factor so much that I am actually returning a Passport SE I bought just last week because I found it entirely too bulky and heavy to lug around as my daily driver. I also found the Passport typing experience to be entirely unsuitable to my personal typing style.

I do want to try a Classic, as I haven't yet had the opportunity. Many have said that because of the toolbelt it offers the best typing experience of any post-9900 BlackBerry phone. But I am also concerned about the larger size and sealed battery. I am willing to try it out, because if the toolbelt really does add to the typing experience it may be worth it to me.

However, I will always keep a Q10 (or two or three) around. It's that awesome. It's that versatile. And it's one of the last devices designed, developed, and produced 100% in-house by BlackBerry. The Classic was designed by BlackBerry but manufactured by Foxconn.
