Ever hear of the Blackberry "Magnum?" Neither have I but apparently that is what they were going to call our device. It goes back to the prototypes of 2010 but Blaize mentioned it also in an interesting 2014 article.

It had no trackpad! And a SurePress screen.

I hadn't heard of this, and I'm glad this version of the design didn't make the cut in the end. The 9900's design is so much better.

Why would we talk you out of buying such an iconic device?

Hey, can the 9900 be used as an mp3 player via bluetooth to a car? Maybe I can get one and hide it from my wife that way

    Yes. It has bluetooth.

Sorry everyone but just have to break in & ask, what's with my Mobile Hotspot not working on my 9900?

It seems to start OK and then the computer always shows the WiFi orange star & "Limited Connectivity"

Is it my version of BBOS? Anyone else have this problem? 9900/7.1.0.391 (B1310)

We're going to need regular updates on this Shuswap. So cool. What an amazing deal. When does the stork bring the baby?

Ya this Hotspot problem has me stumped. Thought it would be a piece of pie. I mean cake. Blackberry cake, or pie.. :P

Six to twelve business days. It's a Rogers device coming from Florida. How does that happen?

Anyways, it's all scratched up on the back, so I'll probably drop the motherboard and keyboard into my existing housing and use my screen. Which means -- if the description is accurate -- I'll have a second flawless screen around for the next 9900 user who drops theirs. A very nice lady here pushed a brand new battery my way last year, and I feel like I owe one back to the universe.

Don't expect to use it with anything Apple. Apple doesn't play nice with any other company when it comes to Hotspot or Bluetooth in my experience.

The one exception I was suprised with though is my Blackberry Bluetooth visor speaker model VM-605, works great with my iphone.

What do you plan to use your 9900 Hotspot for??

Keep us up to date with the rebuild, app installations etc. I'll be really interested to hear whether you can get Google maps running properly, I couldn't. Depending how you go, I might be tempted to buy another 9900; my last unit had a defective camera unit so I now have two 9900s in my spares drawer

I used to use my 9900 hotspot to feed my MacBook Air. It was fairly reliable and good enough for occasional use, obviously data is a bit limiting and I often felt what's the point in tethering? The 9900 was such a capable device I often couldn't see much added value in the hotspot

I guess I shouldn't have said "it won't work with anything apple." I just assumed because my 9780 wouldn't even connect to my ipad with bluetooth to transfer songs or pics, that it would be a bust attempt. I tried the hotspot on this also and no dice.

I guess the Macbook is much more of a professional device for serious buisness and they make sure that it will work with many mobile operating systems. I suppose the ipad is more of a "toy" to them, who knows.....

It is true that Apple's implementation of bluetooth is much more limited compared to other more sophisticated devices ... like BlackBerry

I've had varied experiences with Google maps. Sometimes, the upgrade method has worked. Once, repeatedly trying to log in worked. Sometimes, nothing has worked.

I think I'll try to restore from a BB Desktop backup and use BBSAK for the third-party apps. Should be interesting, because both of my laptops run Linux now, so I'll be reinstalling from a Windows tablet. Hopefully there will be no soft keyboard or touch input related snags.

Yes. eBay.ca. Try the "Make an Offer" button sometime. I was shocked that my offer was accepted. I've been looking for a damaged model for quite a while, because all I really need is the motherboard. People kept buying the broken ones for too much though. I #blameRalph for the price increase.

Yep that's true about Apple. Seems like they've always been that way.

Actually the idea to hotspot came because a friend has been given one by an associate. He was wondering if he could simplify his situation (landline with add on LD plan, rocket stick Internet, dumbphone with almost no use factor, all on different contracts & providers). So the idea is get his gifted 9900 on a good plan & hotspot it.

Well I thought let's see how it's done before he pulls the rug out on his other stuff. Using my phone tried everything. No go. No help in the forums. Everything all around the mark but nothing definitive. Seems it's a known problem with Bolds on various versions of BBOS 7.

But tethering works. At least on mine.

    So. We shall see.
