So how do you update the OS on OS7 phones. You can't do it over the air can you?

My current OS is 7.1 Bundle 2753

    Is that the latest?
I've always updated using a computer and a USB tether. Here's a link with the information (all the relevant information is listed under the "Optional Step" heading in the post).

My extensive Google research ( ) indicates that bundle 2753 includes OS 7.1.0.1011. I'm on 7.1.0.1098, as are a lot of other people here. It's much better, as mushroom_daddy said.

Of course, it would probably help to know what carrier you're with -- if it's GSM, then as far as I know, you can use almost any other GSM carrier's OS (you might have to set the APN yourself afterward and/or resend service books). I know nothing about CDMA carriers, but I'm sure someone with a 9930 can help you if you're on Sprint, Verizon, etc.

I think even BlackBerry might wish they had just released the 9900 with BB10 on it, instead of the Q10. It was a very strange move for them to depart so much from what made a BlackBerry a BlackBerry... lack of shortcuts at release was very non-BlackBerry.
+1 for a 9900 chassis with Q10.3.2+ internals... In 2013! The BB in BB10.0 stood for "Barely Baked", IMO. I tried to use Q10 as released for about 3 miserable months and ultimately ran back to 9900 just to get things done! I believe Dan Dodge & crew simply didn't understand toolbelt well enough to implement it on Q10. IMO. It took two more years to get tool belt into Classic's OS and that STILL lacks the refined feel of our 9900s .

Shortcuts, Speed Dials and ToolBelt are fully half of the reason I like 9900. Q10, as released, was simply too alien to legacy users to entice migration. Without legacy migration, BB10 never stood a chance at reaching adequate userbase critical mass to support app devs. IMO.

Toolbelt on Q10 OR Q10.3.2 internals in 9900 chassis might have made quite a difference in BB's fortunes, IMO.

My error message went away after a couple of battery pulls - the one bad thing about OS7.

Other than that I'm really enjoying being back with a pkb. Everything seems to work great.

Definitely going to be looking at eBay for a 9900 again.
any local electronics repair places in your city? That's how I found the one I got, by accident, unlocked of course.

The 9900 has been in the charger for 24 hours and still no signs of life. I may have to declare this JM-1 battery DOA soon. Should I leave it for another 24 hours?

Was doing some Amazon (.ca) research for a replacement battery and seeing a lot of re-used, poor quality, no-charge holding, reviews out there. Anyone know of a reputable source to score an authentic OEM JM-1? All this 9900 talk (plus Ralph's confirmation that BIS works fine on Rogers... thanks for that) has me anxious to fire this puppy up!

I wish BlackBerry had released a black Q10 with a toolbelt and silver frame.

I got half way there by swapping in a silver frame from a white Q10. Looks amazing.

This looks super slick! Was it hard to do? I have a black and a white Classic gathering dust in a drawer and wouldn't mind doing some tinkering. I imagine the white phone w black bezel will look a bit odd.. but that black and silver though...

Ok so here is what I found on Amazon.ca. I have ordered and got good "new" batteries from here, I would use the one with the highest customer satisfaction rating. Also look for location where the battery will come from. The one I got was Ontario and therefore it is usually faster to arrive.

Now as for the battery on yours, I suppose it is bust, unless you have one of these wall chargers like mine, they can be had from electronics stores for around $10 and they always seem to work better for reviving a battery that has been beyond dead for extended periods. I did a thread a little while ago about how I revived a dead JM-1 and will post it here

Ok this one looks good, the third one down, the one from Jump dot ca, it is from Saskatchewan and 97% approval rating. Double check that it says "new" when placing the order

There is a good chance you will get a good one, but always a chance you might not. If you decide not to I fully understand, or if you are not sure, its cool.

I had to replace the screen and keyboard anyway, so I figured while I had the phone completely apart I might as well swap in a silver bezel. It wasn't difficult, thanks to some excellent YouTube videos out there.

Nice to see a forum with helpful and friendly owners, why? Because they have and use a 9900/9930, probably the best BlackBerry ever but certainly the best keyboard, I still see 9900's in daily use but never any BB10 Phones, I have a black 9900 in daily use and new spares and even a White one plus spare keyboards/ slip cases and batteries and the charging dock is so useful, I have been using batteries by Ex Pro on Amazon for over a year and so far they been excellent and have slightly longer runtime 1450mAh, (and for Q10 owners they have batteries for the Q10) yes I have a new Q10 and two passports for personal use as I am addicted to Blackberry Keyboards, but if I had to choose one only it would be a 9900,

It's alive! I found a spare JM-1 that I had and surprise! It had just enough left in it to handle a charge to start up the phone and get recharged!

I feel like a newborn learning how to walk again! It's been soooooo long since I used os7! My muscle memory is all messed up!

I must now unlearn what I have learned!

    She's a beauty! Enjoy!

I know nothing compares to the 9900/9930, but I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the last BBOS 7 device ever released: the 9720.

    and even a White one,
Man I would use a white 9900, it would stand out. They can cost more on ebay sometimes too I noticed but the prices fluctuate often.

I also noticed on ebay.ca I think it was, there is a special edition white one that comes in a wooden Presentation Display Case and the cost was over $4,000, no joke. I couldnt believe it. I'll see if I can find it later. It might have been gold and white.

An old and long forgotten issue comes back to haunt. I had forgotten that my beloved 9900 had a double typing issue and super sensitive space bar. Anyone have that issue? Do I need to dismantle and clean the insides of the keyboard?

I had that issue on my 9780 but then the next OTA software update took care of it back in 2011. What version is your 9900 running?

you could try turning down your Keyboard typing rate to slower than "Normal." I have heard that works for some

I bought one early this year or late last year.
Brand new unlocked(Verizon branded) just to have it again.
Sadly I traded in the first one when I got my Q10.
Also snatched a spare battery and If I recall correctly a aux charger to charge the second battery.

I toy with the idea of making it a daily device again, but haven't.

It still remains to this day, one of the best phones I have ever used.

Interesting. I'd like to ask some I have never seen in here, is there a reason you don't post much or maybe you feel its not worth posting about your 9900 and the experiences you've had with it anymore or are you posting more now in other sections of CB? I am still learning a lot but the more the merrier, ya know? Just curious.

Good to meet you guys and hope to learn more about this particular model Blackberry, because personally I am addicted. Any personal thoughts on it, brief reviews, etc would be epic also.
