About the issue with revolution, its not actually stuck. The magazine comes with a lot of embedded videos. The download bar apparently doesn't take the total file size into account, and it seems that the large video files are downloaded in the end and they take a long time. Hence the status bar looks static. If you give it enough time, you'll find it'll finish downloading.
I can confirm this. I left the PlayBook download it overnight and it worked.

No problems here. Try uninstalling and reinstalling. You'll probably get Elle and Esquire in the process too.

Some links to free magazines can be found here:-

    T-Mobile + Zinio
    Zinio
    Zinio
    Zinio
    Zinio
    Zinio
    Zinio
    Zinio

I tweaked the URL's and there were many more in foreign languages but I haven't posted them here. It could be well for individual issues but its worth if its free!!!

The best way to add these is to log in to your zinio account through the computer and keep adding the issues by clicking the links above to your account while logged in. Now when you log in to your app you can see all the magazines. Hope this is useful.
    Thanks!!!

I just wish that Zinio would have some free magazines. I just don't want to spend $$ for a subscription. And I just got Nat Geo subscription in print a few weeks before...wish could switch it to Zinio

If you haven't checked out the webpage of Zinio this mornining/last night, the following has now appeared in the help section:

    * NEW: Using Zinio's new RIM Playbook app? Click here for important information! We would like to correct a tweet from earlier this week which was posted in error. Out of respect for the diverse PlayBook customer base, Adult content is not available on this platform (Playboy, for instance). However, we have received reports that some “PG-13” content is currently not viewable. At this time, Zinio is in the process of correcting this. If you have purchased a magazine (such as Maxim), and it is currently not viewable through your PlayBook app, please be patient as we work to make these issues available to you as quickly as possible.

Sooo... After a day with Zinio, I'm a little less disappointed.

No, the bugs haven't been fixed. That odd edge-of-page rendering thing is annoying, but since it's possible to resolve with JUST the right finger-flick, I can live with it. I'd also like my back issues, please, especially the Esquire issues from the past four months that I'd been "saving" to read on my PB.

I renewed my subs to Car and Driver and PC Magazine, though. The purchasing process is reasonably good, if a little laggy for PayPal transactions. As for actual reading? Well...

PC Magazine is a joy to read on Zinio, even on the PB's 7" screen. We should probably expect that, though, since PC Mag dropped its print edition years ago, and is now published in digital format exclusively. The print is large and clear, and articles are short (items typically link to longer online articles for more detail; a good model for this format, I think).

My experiences with C&D and Esquire, though, weren't quite as effortless, and I found myself wishing for either a 10" Playbook or (gasp!) an iPad. On a 7" screen I found I was doing an awful lot of panning and zooming. I was able to read everything I wanted to, yes, it was just not an "optimum" experience. I can say, though, that pans/zooms were reasonably quick.

Even given this, I'm pleased that Zinio is finally here; it was probably the app I wanted the most.

From the new help section on Zinio for the Playbook:

Are older issues available through the app?
Please note that some issues of some publications have not been enabled for the Playbook yet, new issues going forward of most titles will be compatible on your device. Prior issues because they were not produced for this platform may not yet be available, when they do become available they will appear automatically.

As for your other comments, I agree with you. There is a lot of panning/zooming that one has to do and sometimes zooming on an article that appears at the edge of the page will accidentally cause the page to turn. Like you, I found myself wishing for a 10" tablet as reading some magazines on the smaller screen size seems less than an optimal experience.

I'm hoping that with future upgrades to the Zinio app - which are in the works - this may become better.

I frankly don't read "trash*" but I have problems with someone else dictating what I can do with MY tablet. I have no issue with Zinio not stocking certain magazines - that is their choice. And I have no issue if Rim decides not to stock certain titles/apps in ITS store. But if a magazine is available, then no one, not Rim, not the US Government, my local government or my school board should be able to say "You cannot have that on the tablet that I, RIM, manufactured." What would be the outcry if MS decided we could not read some stuff on our computers.

Something is definitely wrong with this model of controlling content. Again, their store - they don't stock and don't sell. Zinio sells, Rim blocks - what!!!! My tablet, my choice of reading materials.

*Trash - everybody's definition will vary. One Attorney General will "dress" nude statues and another will unveil them. That's the problem with censorship. There will be no end to the concepts or arguments over what is pornography, obscene or tasteless.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Zinio Customer Support.

I apologize for the inconvenience and confusion, there have been some developments regarding the availability of Maxim and other content on the Playbook RIM app. These issues should be available on your device shortly and will appear in your library automatically when that happens.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

    Kind regards,

    Raphael Michel

Zinio is an awesome company, it was RIM *Once again* that dropped the ball. Thankfully they battled RIM to overturn this. Sweet! Now I just really hope they get interactive magazines like they do on the ipad. If not, then at least some of those interactive features like extracting text.

If it was RIM's doing, ALL PG-13 would be affected, not some.

What dimm0k said. There is nothing in this Zinio communication that indicates that it was RIM who dropped the ball, so articulous is exhibiting a preconceived anti-RIM bias by making that conclusion. To the contrary, a pessimist would say that if it were RIM's fault, Zinio would be certain to point that out in order to cover their , and so the lack of such an attribution of blame is a clear indication that it was actually Zinio's fault. And I daresay that there will be plenty of pessimists who read it that way.

Regardless of who's "at fault" here, this mini-debacle is certain to stick to RIM, but will probably slide right off Zinio's back.

So as a brand new Zinio user I have to ask; where do we find the rating for the magazines? I haven't been able to locate it on the website. To give Zinio a try I purchased 3 magazines that aren't easily available here. They are The Advocate, Curve and Diva. All these magazines cater to a gay/lesbian audience, but as far as I know, none of these contain what I would describe as Adult content (nude etc.) However, only Curve shows up on my PlayBook.
It surprised me that Curve does show up, so now I'm unsure if The Advocate and Diva are considered Adult content, or if they are in the group of PG-13 magazines that will be available later. I thought these three magazines would be pretty much in the same group

If you read my comment instead of reflexively retaliating at me for for pointing out the appearance of bias in your post, you will see that (a) contrary to your implication, I exhibited no bias either pro- or anti-RIM, and (b) I limited my arguments to the specific individual Zinio communication that you posted. Your implication that there are other Zinio communications which contain additional information is fine, but in no way invalidates my analysis of the single communication you did post.

The initial reference to the post in question (subject a) posted as a resolution to the absence of item in question. In agreement to your response, it does not hold argument to specific blame. It does only hold grounds of resolution to the absence. Development of pro- or anti-Rim can be derived from previous communication from company in question Zinio Inc. Henceforward, ...ahh frack it, I'm wasting time typing like this.
