My God, people will whine about anything. If you absolutely must have playboy or Maxim or whatever online, go complain to them for not extending your paper subscription to web content. Are you people that hard up that you can't survive without one more source of sc pr0n?

And the rest of you whining about the $25 credit - Shut Up, it's a frakkin' free app! What the he11 more do you want? Grow the f*** up already.
A frakking free app that has NO content is worth as much as one paid for it.

The censor is Rim and that is absurb whether its p-rn or not, is not the issue.

Are they going to start limiting the nature of the books we can download - pg-13, perhaps.

    help with zinio

    * NEW: Zinio's RIM Playbook app is now available! Please note that due to RIM restrictions, content that is PG-13 and up (such as Maxim) will not be viewable on the Playbook. We are working to remove these PG-13 titles from the Shop section of the app and removing the RIM compatibility icons from Zinio.com. If you recently made a purchase and due to the inability to view your content on the Playbook would like a refund, click here to request a refund.

I big F*** off from RIM

I'm happy to see that RIM, Apple and Google only have children who buy their products. Silly me for thinking that I'm an adult and have the ability to think for myself and make my own decisions.

I, like others have stated, bought a maxim subscription as it said that was available for RIM and it did not show up on my Playbook. I sent an email asking whatsup and apparently RIM doesn't allow PG-13 or higher rated content and it was a up on Zinio's part that said RIM would allow Maxim.
    Here is the email.

"RIM restricts PG-13 or higher content for mobile devices. Until they eliminate these restrictions, Zinio cannot provide PG-13 content for the Playbook. I'm sorry for any inconvenience.

Considering this information, would you like a full refund of your purchase?

Normally, you can check which publications are compatible with your device by going to Zinio - The World's Largest Newsstand and searching for the title. Each title lists the platforms that it's compatible with. In this case, we apologize that our listing incorrectly shows the RIM platform for this title -- we are making changes to correct this going forward."

So we finally get a much anticipated app on the Playbook and RIM makes it suck. Beautiful.

So for the person who was wondering why their fitness magazines weren't showing up I would imagine it is because women in fitness outfits is considered PG-13. This is a shame.
I will definitely be subscribing to Boy Scouts' Weekly and maybe even a Brownie Mag! This is patently ridiculous. I was not looking for p-rn but really someone has to be kidding. I did not realize that when I purchased a pb, that it came with a built-in filter/censor. Do I need to file an affidavit about my age? Notarized?

Anyone else getting an "Error #2124" error with this app? I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it, restarted my PlayBook and still get this error when trying to view the free issue of Esquire I downloaded.

First, it's not about whining; it's a reaction to censorship based on an antiquated, conservative dogma that holds that other people know what's best for others. Sorry, but I'm an adult and I can chose for myself what I will watch, view, and read.

Second, this has absolutely nothing to do with porn. For example, Gay Times publishes news articles concerning social issues, history, sociology, entertainment, politics, psychology and the sciences often focusing on gay/lesbian individuals who are making contributions in these areas. It most certainly is not porn. But I guess as it's a gay magazine - oh the horrors! - it must be banned from the Playbook.

Third, the only people here who have to "grow the f*** up" are the ones who are horrified by free expression. It's 2012 - not the 1600's.

And before I get even more annoyed than I already am - I utterly detest censorship of any kind - isn't it ironic that I can download a video game which allows me to dismember and kill other individuals using shotguns, grenades, and chainsaws and yet be barred from reading an article regarding suicide rates amongst gay teenagers. Square that circle please.

I guess this makes the sideloaded Kindle app even more attractive......

If RIM (and Google and Apple) are concerned about kids seeing this sort of content, they're a wee bit late to the party (the phrase closing the barn door after the horses have run away comes to mind), as there are plenty of places on the Internet for this sort of content and stuff that makes Maxim look like the magazine section of the Sunday paper.

If they're not allowing Maxim and other similar "men's" magazine, I sure hope that Cosmopolitan and other similar women's magazines are given the same treatment (I've been in stores in which they have blinders over titles like Cosmo [similar to what you see over porno mags at stores] because of the raciness of the article blurbs on the covers.).

Is there any free content to test drive this on the Playbook? I'm surprised that the app doesn't come with any sample content.
it is supposed to come with a $25 credit which you can use to purchase anything you want. To me that is much better then Zinio choosing the same 'default' tester for everyone.

That being said... i dont have my $25 yet.

exactly. it comes with the territory. i havent picked up a maxim or stuff in ages. i picled one up the other day out of curiosity, and saw a few outfits inside i liked. i was reminded of the large amounts of useful articles inside on anything from fashion to health to cars to gadgets. It just so happens there are a bunch of scantily clad women in the magazine too.

When i used to go grocery shopping with my mom i'd tell her "i'll be at the magazines" to which shed say to make sure and stay there knowing id be reading game magazines. i could have just as easily picked up a mens mag. are they going to restrict the magazine section in stores now too?

Oh, i know that... but i mean that if i dont like the 'samples' i can spend the $25 credit to get 'my magazine' to look at and test out.

I actually signed up on the website after the original article here and the free samples are decent, but none of them are exactly what i would pay for, so for me the $25 credit is the turning point

I was waiting for this app and just randomly chose a free magazine to see what it was like. I had trouble with it - if I zoomed, I couldn't scan around the page to see the left side, it was cut off by the edge of the previous page. If I was in the magazine and wanted to go back to my library - couldn't get anything to happen swiping from any bezel - had to exit the app and come back. So far, it's not enticing me to transfer any paper magazines to this reader unfortunately. I hope they improve how it works on a PB, it looks like it was a rush job that wasn't tested by anyone in the guise of an ordinary end user.

Oh! Okay. A lot of the subscriptions seem pretty expensive.

I thought digital editions were much cheaper.

You can get a lot of these magazines for $12 or less in the print edition.

So yeah, the $25 credit would help.

I'm not sure it is RIM based on a twitter message I received from Alec Saunders.

I asked him if RIM has a policy in place that precludes mature magazines from being downloaded to the Playbook.

He has just replied with the following:"quite the contrary. We have a rating system in place so that content and app providers can self rate".

I have now subscribed to 4 FREE items. None are showing on my pb. How much of a lag is there. Oh, I did log out and log back in.

And one is a Lake Tahoe guide - unless the syllable "hoe" is also TOO much for pg-13.

What f***ing rubbish! Inside the app in ordered the Maxim subscription to only have it limited to other devices. I'm also only seeing one of my national geographic magazines, and I'm more than certain they have previous months that are non interactive. Zinio, you're getting one disappointed customer laying down hurt tomorrow.
I also ordered Maxim and couldn't get it on the playbook. Sent an email to customer service and here is the response:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Zinio Customer Support.

RIM restricts PG-13 and higher content for mobile devices. Until they eliminate these restrictions, Zinio cannot provide PG-13 content for the Playbook. I'm sorry for any inconvenience.

These publications continue to be accessible through the online or offline readers available for flash-compatible devices. You can download the free software for your Mac, PC here:

    https://www.zinio.com/account/download-reader-page.jsp

Normally, you can check which publications are compatible with your device by going to Zinio - The World's Largest Newsstand and searching for the title. Each title lists the platforms that it's compatible with. In this case, we apologize that our listing incorrectly shows the RIM platform for this title -- we are making changes to correct this going forward.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Here is the response from Zinio that I have received. I've copied the comments that I found most interesting here:

RIM restricts PG-13 content for mobile devices. Until they eliminate these restrictions, Zinio cannot provide PG-13 content for the Playbook. I'm sorry for any inconvenience.

Other comments, yes the magazine is available to browse on the device but not view. Because RIM did not notify of us of this beforehand, we were unable to remove the offers from in-app prior to launch. We are working on this now and it should disappear from the shop shortly.

GT(Gay Times) is not an adult magazine and I agree with you that it should be available on your device. Unfortunately the mag has a rating of PG-13 and falls into this category that Blackberry won't allow on their device.

In addition, please feel free to share your feedback with Blackberry about these censorship policies they have put into place for developers like us.

    Kind regards,
