I hope the mods sticky this The mods stickied it!...Crackberry needs it.

    I'll keep it simple:

The playbook, like other tablets, can take advantage of web-apps! I'm going to name a few in hopes other members can post some links to some great apps built on HTML5, Flash, HTML, PHP or w/e....

I'm trying to show people that we can get 98% of the apps we need when we go online, AND for free!

Don't forget to add shortcuts to the links on your Homescreen to make them feel even more like apps!

    Let's get started!

Those are just the few of the tens of millions (not a mere few hundred thousand..) of web-apps that are a common platform for any modern browser! This is the cloud, this is the future and the playbook is headed in that direction.

EDIT: It would be great if we all could help each other find out which are the best web apps we can use. Please point out if certain links don't work, and it would be great if you could find other ones that do work with the Playbook!

EDIT 3: Updated again, december 1st 2011. Keep em coming.

Web apps do not equal apps...

They aren't even remotely close to being in the same ballpark.

For games, I would recommend Kongregate. And make sure you use the mobile version
Because most flash-based website usually needs mouse or physical keyboard. So it will spoil the fun..

I can't test this out where I am, but will this work with the PlayBook for sure? Have you tested it? I see Skype as an option to login, so, did you just post an answer to the Skype users who are dying for an app for their PB?

I had this in its own thread from a few days ago, but I think it would fit in here. Its a direct link to the Gtalk widget and makes the interface on the PB browser pretty nice:

Yes, I have tested with skype with imo.im with sarfari and the playbook and the audio works perfectly with <0.3 second lag.
The video, is apparently a little trickier but you can make it work. You have to select the playbook camera and few other things to do. Not sure. I believe there is a thread on crackberry somewhere about how to get this working.

but the playbook browser doesn't multi task. you can't have multiple tabs in the browser running different web apps at the same time. so i can't have imo.im open and running while i'm surfing the web. so we do need apps, or better browser multitasking.

IMO, some "web apps" work better than others on the Playbook.

For instance, the Box.net interface is easier to navigate on the PB than the Dropbox interface. Personally, I use Dropbox more than Box, but the ease of use of Box on the PB has me considering switching back to Box.

I agree that the PB browser really helps, but I'd still like to see some additional business class apps on the PB.

I'd like to see scanning and printing capabilities on the PB.

If your a fan of hidden objects or spot the difference games, then you owe yourself a favour to check out DifferenceGames - The place to find spot-the-difference Flash games

These are the same people who produced some apps that are already available for the Playbook like the Robin Hood: Twisted Fairy Tale spot the difference game that has received excellent reviews.

Every game that I have tried on their website, which uses flash, works well in the browser of the Playbook - just double click it to run full screen - and the best part is is that they are all free.

    Nokia Maps Beta

This is a competitor to Bing and Google Maps which works quite well in Playbooks browser. It allows you to plan a route (driving or walking), browse the map in different views (normal, satellite and transport) and should be able to detect the GPS position if you allow it in the options of the browser.
It also has multitouch zoom which is a bit laggy but still works better than the free Google Maps apps that are available on AppWorld.
