I can install android .apk apps on my Galaxy tab without downloading from the apps market.

Will I be able to do the same with the Playbook?

What extension are the apps for the playbook?

No, at this time the only way to get apps on the PlayBook is from app world

You can install apps from other locations, but as far as I know there aren't any other places to get apps unless the developer posts the BAR file.

You can load them through USB if you have the SDK installed on your computer and you turn on development mode on your PlayBook.

That's not true for a majority of users. Development mode requires the apps that you load to be signed with a signature that matches the debug token installed on your device.

Basically you have to be holding the source code for the app to be able to sideload it.

Wow, this sounds more complicated than apps for iOS or Android. Apps for iOS and Android can be installed from just installing the obtained apps.
