Besides a tumblr or getglue app, the playbook could also use a good travel app. I love Blackberry travel on my bold 9930, a similar app would be great!
2.a simple app that lets you hook up to your home network like
any other computer.so all you have to do is set up shared folders on
your pc.imho, shouldnt have to buy an app for this.
3.ebook software.imho the pb isnt really suited as an ebook reader,
because of the screen.its like reading off a monitor.but anyway,
the apps for ebook reading on the pb are primitive.my outdated
$50 ebook reader blows the pb out of the water in format support
and functionality.
4.video player.one that has software mode.like vlc player or gom player.
the native video player doesnt support common codecs like ac3.
5.file management software.the first time i tried to use my pb to
do stuff i normally do on my pc,i noticed it to be very tedious
and time consuming.the apps dont seem to have simple functionality
like move to or copy to.file commander can do this easy but,
imho, shouldnt have to buy an app for this.
6.software management.install bar files directly from playbook.
cant do something as simple as uninstall an
app and reinstall.at least for native apps like the browser.i had
a problem with the browser.lol, your only option every time is to
reload os.imho, shouldnt have to buy an app for this.
7..rar,.7zip,etc
8.irc client.one that doesnt require you to have all the irc commands
memorized.should also support file transfers.
9.i sometimes find it difficult to get the open in new tab or the
copy and paste functions to pop up in the browser.perhaps,
an app that makes this easier.
10.video dowloading/media downloading.from sites other than utube.the
android app tubemate works well enough for utube.
11.port firefox browser.this would be killer!plugins and addons for
almost anything.would add a ton of functionality.
12.usb host.id love to be able to plug in a cheap memory card
reader and transfer files over.or hook up my mini 32gig hard drive.
id like to see all of these things.but,if i had to choose just one.
firefox!
Personally I'd 'love' TweetDeck - I think it'd go down an absolute storm on the PlayBook!
Or if not TweetDeck, then maybe Twitter for PlayBook, in the style of Twitter for iPad of course!
In short, just a 'useful' Twitter application.
1) A better spider solitaire(like the current one on my PC with Vista) that has a undo option. I bought one at the app store and it is not bad but its not quite there.
2) Some more learning games for my grandchildren , something like Leappad games, simple but keeps their interest.
3) as above something like a Mario kart for my grand kids.
4) the usual requests for Skype and Netflix
As can be seen I use my Playbook for entertainment and surfing. I hope that with the big push with the price drop that more developers will start looking at the Blackberry.
I'd say skype just to get it out the way honestly or a native tumblr app but not really a need bc tumblr on the browser works great but I would def recommend skype which seems to be a selling point for the pb instead of waiting for microsoft or rim to make one
A PDF application that provides the ability complete forms and digitally-sign the document. Adobe really screwed BlackBerry PlayBook users with their freaking abysmal Adobe Reader.
Skype (which which I was hoping to see announced for bb10)
XBMC for Ac3 audio decoding in movies, Better navigation for movies(folders? )
Better music player
Usb host support and Usb midi
Android player enhancements
An honest to goodness video streaming solution like AirVideo from the iOS platform.
The screen on the Playbook is great for video, but I'd like to be able to stream content from home when I'm on the road, and that means transcoding (over the Internet) is required.
AirVideo uses a customized ffmpeg (which they have released the source to - link below) and basically provides a clean UI for navigating your collection.
I'd also love Netflix, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon it would seem. The stand alone transcoder seems more realistic.
I have enough of a grasp on the playbook now to write what I want. I am just unsure where the community needs are at.
What types of applications would you guys like to see? I would love to see your ideas, and perhaps bring some of them to life.
That being said, if anyone else is looking for help, I'm available too. I do mostly flex development, but am also proficient in pixel art, and photoshop in general.
