I have purchased a used blackberry from my class fellow. Right now, I am unable to install any apps on it. I want to know shall I be able to upgrade its OS. Right now, I can't install any new apps on it. My friend has told me it does not have any blue tooth but I don't need this blue tooth thing. Let me know if there is any way to get my favorite apps on it?

This is the Playbook section of the forum you should have posted on either the ATT or 9000 forum.

That being said, you seem to have purchased as 9000 that is on ATT network.
Do you have an ATT Blackberry plan?
You need a BB plan and have the phone registered with Blackberry before you can open a BB appWorld account to install apps.
Call ATT to have their BB department walk you through account setup and appWorld setup.

In answer the Bluetooth comment, no, you do not need it unless you are connecting to a wireless headphone or the Playbook.
As far as upgrading the OS, there is a whole section of this forum that will walk you through the steps.
