Will the "Top Rated" and "Top Free" sections ever be updated?

There also apps on the Playbook App World that are only compatible with BB Phones.
For instance, the app "1-Touch Flashlight Free" is on the top rated section, although the Playbook doesn't even have camera flash.

BTW, it's one of my fav app on my BB Phone.

The apps listed under each of these section have been there since last year, maybe even more.

I know there are some great apps waiting to be discovered but it's very difficult to find them.

    The search engine works 50/50.

well, I would say their search function works 10 of 100 times.

it is kind of vicious cycle: search can not function, so people cannot find good apps, people can not find good apps, then old apps always on the top, then people say no apps on playbook.

btw, could app world use Bing as search engine?

1 Touch Flashlight works on the PB, it just uses the PB screen.

The "top" apps are definitely not the the top apps...at least most of them anyway.

It just displays a white wallpaper and that's mostly it. Basically, it's useless on the Playbook but a great handy tool on BB phones.

Well, they do change, at least. I keep an eye on them, especially top free and top paid in the app section, because it's almost pointless to check the new arrivals when it's just a diahrretic flow of soft porn e-books.I definitely see new apps popping on and off the top tables of both games and apps. What criteria must be met to get them on those tables, mind you, is a different matter.

Is it the amount of downloads, the amount of 5 star ratings, the amount of over 3-star reviews, the amount of favours done for RIM? Anyone have any first hand knowledge on how this works?

If you guys want that to change, make sure to rate your favorite apps and write good reviews.

That's how they get pushed into (and out of) the Top list. I still remember when Dead Space was the very first on the list...

    Here's how the rankings work:

Rankings in the "Top Paid" lists are based on rolling sales levels for some specific time period (perhaps the last 24 hrs but only RIM knows for sure). Apps that have higher sales than others during the period will be ranked higher in the list. One thing to bear in mind that the sales figures for apps reflect sales across all platforms. It is quite possible that the BBOS versions on an app may be selling very well but the PlayBook version is a total flop. Such an app would appear near the top of the PlayBook list regardless of its poor performance on that platform. The "Top Free" lists are ranked similarly to paid apps but the ranking is based on the number of downloads in the period.

The Top Rated" lists (and also the Category lists) are ranked based on customer ratings for reviews. The ranking calculation favours apps with lots of reviews over apps with just a few reviews - for example an app with 300 reviews and and an average star-rating of 3 would outrank an app with 20 reviews with a 5-star average rating. Since free! apps generally receive far more reviews than paid apps, the "Top Rated" lists have a preponderance of free! apps and only a few paid ones.

Just to add, if you notice a lot of the top rated apps have been around ages - and had time to accumulate tons of reviews... (all bar one of the games are free too)...
I never look at top rated personally.
