I don't want to spoil the Developer announcing their own App but....WOW....

I've been Beta testing and its fantastic!

    Yes it works over Bridge
Yes it works in most countries.
    Yes it has voice guidance.
Yes you can save Map Data.

Only a few days to go... Well done to the developer!

    See http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...leased-721909/

Already submitted, so it will be available any day now.

I helped test it. Very cool. Can be used off-line with cached map tiles and saved routes. Works very well with Bridge. Better than anything else available.

Questions? Testers have been released from the NDA, so ask away.

I'm in Brasil. Is this app any good for me?

Also, is it native or "ported from another platform"?

    Native.

Should work fine in Brazil. I do not know how many countries were used in the test, but it was tested more than just in North America for sure.

Would be useful if it says in which countries it can be used, if it works in Saudi will definitely buy

The developer will need to jump in here with definitive information. As far as I know this is world-wide, but in English only. I could be wrong about either of those things, though, I suppose. There may be a language setting of which I was unaware, and I personally cannot vouch for where in the world there might not be maps.

    Ohhhhh..., good idea.

I just checked, and one needs to know the two-letter country code to properly search, I think.

There are data sources for the whole world, it appears, and with a starting and ending address, we should be able to get directions anywhere.

Give us some addresses to check.

This is only for PB, not BB phone?
I'm tired waiting for BB traffic on my country.

Can you test this address "Nagrak, Indonesia" ?

It doesn't know where my street is, although it has some info on the neighborhood that neither Google nor BB Maps have.

Let the dev know I want to join the beta-testing group. Let's get Brasil in there...

EDIT: Or I can just edit the map... But I still want in on beta-testing.

Seems to work well. After some struggles with setting up the map options properly for searching, I could search and find McDonald's.

However, Yelp return an error of"API not available for this location,” so that feature will not work. I could get directions, though.

The country code for Columbia is, "CO."

This is tested in the release candidate code. It could work slightly better in the actual production code.

Beta testing is over. Give me a place to check in Brazil and something to search for (McDonald's?) and I will check both for directions and searching.

It works with limited functionality. Not all street names are present, and some show in Arabic only. Direction look accurate, but do not show some street names.

I did successfully search for McDonald's and get directions from a randomly selected pint.

I've looked at several countries now. It appears that full functionality is limited in at least some countries. I will shoot off a note to the company making this product and see what they say. It does appear to be usable world-wide, but has some limitations.

What is the size of the app and how big are the maps??

Will this be an update to "Magellan Compass Maps" or a new product in app world??

Size? About 5 MB pre-production. I would guess possibly less in the final release, but that remains to be seen.

Maps can take up as little as no space, if you keep an internet connection going and disable caching. Otherwise, as much space as you allow for caching. I allow up to 2 GB (the max allowed). My current total is 357 MB cached, and that's caching pretty much everywhere I travel locally.

    Lots of questions.

Magellan Compass is good in any part of the world.

It uses Map Quest or Open Street Map information.

We had one beta tester from Columbia, so it should be fine.

Only for the PlayBook. Port to Android tablet being worked on.

App has been localized in all PlayBook support languages.
