Thank you for this. I had no idea there was a app. I have been going to the website to check.
I have found this to be hugely different than going to Speedtest.net. On the website, I often have 35-68ms latency. In this App, about 75% of the time it will freeze up at start and ill get something crazy like 4000ms latency. The download speeds are pretty similar. On the website, I have no problem maintaining 1.5-1.9MB upload. With the App, I struggle to get 1MB upload and it often freezes the test.
I dont know if its just because the App isnt compatible with OS 2 beta, but it seems to have some issues.
Edit: I have to take that back, I guess. I just ran Speedtest.net and got 2 latency errors and failed to run them. It seems the OS is my issue.
I have found that the Speedtest app results do not come close to the results of the Speedtest.net web interface. The SpeakEasy web speed test and the Speedtest.net web test have approximately the same results for my connection: 19 Mbps down and 2Mbps up. The Speedtest app only shows 3.9 Mbps down and 0.6 Mbps up.
Im just curious, are you on OS 1.0.7 or beta 2.0?
For me the app and the website Speedtest's are the same. I am on OS 1.0.7

hi guys.
i know this is a old post but i have reason to believe that my wifi connection sucks. i have a belkin play n600, 300n dual band router. maybe 4 items running wifi on it (2.4ghz) and just the playbook on 5ghz.
i have downloaded the speedtest app and getting 311 kbits down and 382 kbits up.
and on speedtest.net getting 0.61 mbps down and 0.43 mbps up.
i have cleaned all browser settings.
i started to realize the poor connection when i couldnt watch a simple youtube video without buffering 3 times during a 90sec video.
anyone out there familier with this router? any settings that i could change? router or playbook?
surfing is just very very slow and want to know if its my wifi or playbook. i havent been anywhere to test another wifi.
thx keith
^^^this sucks, im getting similar results as you
i have down speed of .96mbps and up speed of .08mbps.
no wonder my browser experience has been crappy with the pb
I have the speedtest app.. I'm on the latest official OS. 1.0.8. Runs great for me, matches download speeds announced by ISP in multiple locations for the internet package we have, and I get similar results online, so no problems here.
Both speed test app and speedtest.net work great. Close enough results (see attached).

OS2 on Wifi here
App reports:. Latency 143 ms
Download 9920Kbits average, 15792Kbits max
Upload 1239Kbits average, 1422Kbits max
Going to try website. Of mention, the closest server always reports lower than others to me by almost half.
Update:. Websites about the same. All my systems test in around here. Always seems likens good connection until you realize I'm paying Shaw for 50Mpbs. But I will take them over Telus
I have seen people complain about their PB having fits when connected to the Internet. At the same time, their ipads run great. This morning I read a comment from someone on one of the web sites that test the Internet for speed. He commented that he can download itunes at twice the rate his ISP says they will provide yet when he went to an Internet gaming site the speed slowed to a crawl. In February 2012, Rogers Communications (Canada) admitted to the CRTC that they throttle the Internet to certain clients. One of these sites was the same gaming sites. I guess the colour of your money does not matter to Rogers. Now things are beginning to make sense. I would suspect that ISP are throttling service to PB's also. I think it is high time for us to install an APP that tracks and records our Internet connection speed. Now I can see why people say that suddenly their PlayBook goes ape after working fine for months. Too many PB owners are being treated as if they wire a dark hoodie and sunglasses carrying a PlayBook. If your carrier is Rogers, Bell, Telus and AT&T, beware!
