Many moons ago I used Avant Go which would allow me to download news articles for later reading. Is there anything similar for use with the Playbook? It would be nice if I could download articles for later reading on the train as my experience with the signal via the "Bridge" is inconsistent.

I fondly remember AvantGo myself (I had a Philips Pocket PC in the late 90s and used it to load up news to read on the bus).

I'd say Blackberry News comes as close as anything else. The bonus: if you have a BB phone as well it seems to keep feeds sync'd between both.

I have Blackberry News, but my experience is that the summaries are present but that the internet has to be accessed to produce the full article, hence the delay when I am on the train.
