Is RIM protecting Kobo?
Given how popular Kindle is, can we assume RIM has some sort of agreement with Kobo that keeps them from putting Kindle in app world? It doesn't seem possible that nobody reworked the android kindle app by now. Anyone know if there's some Kobo licensing issue?

Not sure about kobo license... Probably more likely not enough PlayBook sold to warrant. Apparently....

As I understand it only the original developer may properly repackage and post an Android app to AppWorld. Apparently Amazon has thus far not shown interest in repackaging their Android app or building a native version. Seems to me that the Android app would be a quick 'n dirty solution for them, but they may be protecting their own interests.
In any case, the kindle .bar file is available for sideloading. I've tried it, works well enough. I'm primarily a Kobo user, so I don't care too much about Kindle.

I got these two separate answers this week from Kobo after having bought a travel guidebook which never appeared in my library (posted in another thread)
"Thank you for contacting Kobo Customer Care. We apologize for the issue that you are having. You experience this issue as the book mentioned is a DRM-Free ePub and cannot be stored or read in full on the Blackberry Playbook. We sincerely apologize for this issue."
"We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and we do understand your frustrations. However, this is due to settings placed in the device by RIM. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us."
Now, with these blaming answers, I would be surprised that RIM protects Kobo.
