This is just a friendly reminder to everyone about development in general, and why people like us can be taken for granted in some ways.

    1. It takes a lot of hard work for an application to be created, no less an emulator. We are not talking about two or four hours of work here. I have probably spent 20 hours of work on snes9x-pb so far (A7omic probably has spent more) , not counting any other projects, and it still isn't perfect.

    2. Suggesting improvements is fine. However; we expect meaningful suggestions. Remarks like "if this application was polished I would pay 99c for it" is a downright insult. Developers work hard to provide you with a product, and remarks like this simply devalue our efforts.

    3. These things are always a work in progress. We all have full time jobs, and devote some of our spare time to these things. There is a fine line between sitting on top of it forever, and releasing something that others can enjoy while we improve it. Don't expect perfection in open source. We try to get as close as possible with the time and resources that we have.

So, in summation, we enjoy providing applications and games for you guys to enjoy. We enjoy receiving meaningful feedback regarding improvements we can make to our applications, and we do this all in our spare time. So all we ask for is the proper respect.

I am not going to name any names. Thank you for your time.

i'm an it specialist, not a developer of playbook apps, though. i feel your frustration.

somehow it's the entitlement people nowadays feel, or the need for instant gratification.

it's something developers have to learn to live with, though.

    unfortunately :-(

    hang in there.

Yep, we do. Some days (speaking from the IT professional in me as well) we just have to vent after a bad day.

I wanted to interject here too - I've seen a lot of people, even nondevs doing what they can to help support these products and I love seeing the community gather.

But I can relate to this post. Some people have developed some pretty twisted views and expectations for the applications they get free in places.

But I just wanted to say - all of you who read this post, and nodded and see this kind of thing - we all appreciate your support . Its just a fewbad apples and sometimes it can be hard to remember all the positive comments. Heck, I take every negative review on my apps personally. But for those who go out of their way to give good ideas and push the community - thank you

And to people who complain about free applications like snes9x-pb, I hate you all (just kidding) but it is damaging. And it does interupt development because those developers take it personally and spend time answering and debating on posts

    (Ramble ramble, I know)

I would like to tell you how much I respect you developers who put their man hours into building apps even when you know you might not be getting paid for it.
I haven't played with it yet, but I will soon. And I really do appreciate the time and effort you put into it.

I just want to add my appreciation to the list.

I don't know any of those apps listed, but I do use my share of them and I have a healthy respect for all of you who have ANYTHING to do with making the experience here in crackberry and/or on the blackberry or playbook a better place to be.

My hat's off to you all.

I'm an Android developer fixing to get into Playbook QNX development, and I agree with everything said here so far. In the Android world it's so hard for people to understand these suggestions, for some reason. BUT, from what I've seen here at this forum, most everyone abides by those suggestions stated in the OP. So far I'm convinced that when I get something worked out for the Playbook, this forum would be a great place to alpha/beta test software.

As someone who knows nothing about developing apps, I really have come to appreciate the willingness of various developers posting on these forums; soliciting comments; and actively engaging with the community in terms of seeking ideas for new apps.

I must admit, however, I'm somewhat suprised that there are people who would treat developers negatively/rudely/insulting. I guess I'm naieve and perhaps disappointed that the OP would even have to create a thread such as this - particularly in light of the fact of how much the Playbook needs to have developers support it.

So, to give my two cents for whatever its worth: thank you to all of the developers, both large and small, who have developed and continued to develop apps for the Playbook. To me, while RIM may have created a fine tablet; it is you that have truly made it functional.

You'd be surprised. What I've noticed with Android is that even if it's free, people can be downright rude and verbally abusive just to get an ETA on an update. While that's certainly not true of everyone, some people think that the developer owes them something if the app or ROM doesn't function the way they think it should. They'll trash talk it, give it bad ratings, etc...

I've not seen any of that here.

Amen - I see so many people (not Crackberry per se, but all over the web and the world) have lost the ability to respect other people. I'm stunned that there are any devs here willing to put their head over the parapet.

I am amazed at what can be achieved and created by you guys. Keep up what you do and the way you do it, and try not to take the negatives personally.

    Thanks to you all!
