This game is brought to us by the developers of such neon spiced selections as the Radiant games, Robotek and Buka.

It's a fairly simple RPG, that has you travelling from point to point on the world map, occasionally encountering random battle scenes, and completing quests. As you progress, you go up levels and gain money. The money is used to purchase new weapons, armour and accessories which affect your health, damage, armour, criticals and attack forms. When you go up a level, you'll have a choice of three abilities, ranging from improved attack forms, to more health, damage, blocking, speed etc.

The controls consist of moving your character left or right, jumping or double jumping, bouncing on things including enemies, and swiping to perform attacks. Your basic attack is automated, requiring you simply to approach an enemy. Performing the automated attacks builds up energy to add power and effects to your swipe attacks. The swipe attacks can be performed regardless, but are much weaker if you have no energy built up.

The game is free up to level 10, but at any time can be purchased for one of three options, each unlocking more features of the game than the last. They are priced accordingly at 2.99$, 3.99$ and 4.99$.

Purchasing the highest upgrade to the game gives you access to the second game mode, the Dark Harvest. Here you'll have access to a second version of yourself, and build him up separate from the main story, with his own skills and equipment. The game structure is a simple level based combat progression, with a break in between each level to purchase new equipment from your earnings so far.

It should be noted that at the moment, the game prompts you to sign into your PayPal on top of the regular BlackBerry ID sign in before confirming the purchase. This extra step required me to purchase the game on my Z10, as my PlayBook pulled up a PayPal error.

Fortunately, purchasing on the Z10 unlocks the game on your PlayBook aswell. It simply requires you to go into the options on your PlayBook version, and reset your purchases. The benefit is that you then have two separate games, with two separate characters that you can build up differently without having to reset the game completely. So you can experiment, focusing one on say strength and health, and the other on speed and blocking.

PS. Would one of the mods mind modifying my title to read PlayBook instead of PkayBook, please?

    Edit: Thanks!

Doesn't bother me. These are Steam prices compared to console $60 prices.

It's a little misleading. Normally I associate In App Purchases with freemium games in the form of buying in game currency or premium currency to make the game playable. This is more like what we've seen in the Artifex Mundi games. It's a demo, and you get the full game if you pay for it.

Are games that you have to purchase or games with free demo versions ruined?

@Dave:And they wonder how some can be so easily conned. @KC: Doesn't say anything about it being a demo. The Andriod version of Asphalt 7 is now IAP, you still have to buy it and continue buying it, but the Playbook version isn't.

It's a little confusing for sure. These are the descriptions I have for both the Z10 and PlayBook though, they do try to make it clear.

You only pay once, to buy the game. It's like buying a game. You pay once, and then you can play the full game. The in app purchase this game refers to is to buy the full game. Once you've bought the full game, even if you wanted to, you can't spend any more money on it. There's only one in app purchase, and once it's purchased, the game is yours.

Rather than submitting a demo and a paid version, they just put the two in one. It's a demo with the option to pay to unlock the full game. It's not subscription based, nor can you buy in game currency.

The levels it refers to are your character's levels, as it's an RPG. So the game isn't structured like Candy Crush, where you progress through puzzle levels, and have to pay to get more puzzles. Reaper simply stops your character from going up more levels once you reach 10, though you can still progress through missions, earn gold and buy better equipment. Once you purchase the game, the level cap is removed, and your character will continue going up levels until you stop playing.

So basically what you have is an RPG demo which allows you to purchase the full game from within the game with a one time payment (like purchasing most other games), which even if you don't purchase you can continue playing anyway (though your character will be stuck at level 10), which if you DO purchase also unlocks on your Z10 (no double dipping), AND it's available on the PlayBook (which just makes Hexage a good sport and all around philanthropist). That's a fistful of win right there, and about as far from a ruined game as you can get without being the best game ever made.

So having played the game both on my Z10 and PlayBook, I figured I'd compare the two.

The first difference obviously is the screen size. For a game that at times requires some quick reactions and precise well timed strikes, a larger screen is much more accommodating. Some of the enemies blend well into the background aswell, and there are times where you have to maneuver among a storm of glowing projectiles. The PlayBook definitely makes the task easier in these situations.

The next difference is screen sensitivity. As I've seen in quite a few games now, things around the edge of the Z10 screen can be unresponsive, especially buttons. The PlayBook doesn't suffer from this. Reaper often has you pushing around the edge of the screen for dialogue options, menus, and buy or sell options. It hasn't been a huge issue as yet, mind you.

Overall, the experience for me has been much more enjoyable on the PlayBook than the Z10, though I can't help but play it on my Z10 as well!

And the Dark Harvest mode, though just combat, is a nice alternative to the main game, providing the same level and equipment progression, with smaller waves of enemies.

Mind if I ask what you focused your character(s) on? I tried making one based on strength and damage, and the other on speed and blocking. While the speed based one could get around like mad, it took him so long at higher levels to kill each creature, like 8 or 9 swipes before it would die. My strength based one can take them out in 3 or 4 swipes.

When you start having to beat 30-40 enemies in each combat, taking them out with fewer swipes seems to be the key.

For those who've purchased the Dark Legend edition (full package), the fortune teller and Torken Arena seem to appear later in the game. I'm not sure if it's based on your character level, or story progression though.

I noticed the fortune teller after my character was level 20, and the Torken Arena has just appeared with my character at 29.

The fortune teller will sell you a skill card like what you get to choose from when you go up a level. I'm not sure if the price scales, but the first sells for 20000 gold.

The Torken Arena is a death trap of flying heat seeking magic and tough club wielders in a level cut off on both sides by pits. It seems to progress like a game show, where you can choose to leave with your current earnings, or continue for a bigger cash pot. The enemies seem to be scaled to your level aswell, so it doesn't get easier as you get stronger.

I received an error trying to purchase it on my PlayBook. So I purchased it on my Z10, which didn't automatically activate it on my PlayBook. I had to go into the options in Reaper on my PlayBook and tap "restore purchases". And then it registered that it had been bought.

This game kicks serious @$$. I wanted to hold off buying it until I got a better tablet down the road, but the demo was so addictive that I'm just going to have to buy it twice.

The fortune teller is fixed price at 20,000 gold. You're essentially paying 20k for a level up, since the only thing that changes when you level is getting to pick a new tarot card.

I can't beat more than 2 levels of the Arena and I'm at level 39 with (so far) the best armor and damage stats I can balance (i.e. damage increase without armor decrease). Then again, I could just suck. I think the "rage armor" is bugged though because I'm at 2/2 on it (+12 armor per rage) and still seem to take the same damage at 8 rage as I do at 0. It could be that armor level hits a point of diminishing returns, because +96 armor at any point in time should make me a walking tank.

It's fun, addictive, and easy to pick up at any time. If it starts to get repetitive it's easy to put down for a while and then jump right back in when it's time for more killing. Well worth $5 for the full unlock.

Does it actually bump you up a level though? I ask because it seems like new versions of the creatures appear every 10 levels or so. I rarely find equipment to replace what I'm currently using at level 31, so if the fortune teller simply gives you a card without bumping up a level, it seems like a good way to get an edge.

That's about as far as I've gotten too. For Torkens, they sure do use a lot of magic. I've started using the ground pound in the air to knock groups of the club wielders off the edges. And the aerial spinning attack is great when you have the card that increases your block chance while performing rage attacks. I manage to block most of the projectiles while taking out those pesky spirits.
