disable antivirus for the first connection between pb and pc...now it works!!!
Find a large attachment (20+mb). You dont want that sitting on an e-mail server, or have to download that to your device. Just hit print from your PC and take it with you as a PDF. Works great on the Playbook.
I think the documentation for the current implementation explicitly states you must be on the same local WiFi subnet. The NOC connection is either just for some authorization via your BBID, or for a future enhancement that would work the way you describe, it seems.
With my Mac, by WiFi, I just drag & drop any file on any folder I choose on the PB, don't really get the need of this app, can someone explain me?
Give me a break. That's not an excuse to lazily implement things "eventually". This kind of lack of attention to detail is what got RIM in this mess in the first place.
I'm a Mac user and I have a BB and a PB. If RIM is going to just assume all Mac users have iPhones, then how do they expect to win any more of them over? People go with the product that "just works". If the consumer has to deal with half-baked features then they will inevitably leave to find a solution that works for them.
So no, that's not an excuse.
It is a convenience feature designed to reduce the amount of paper and ink that people use. Instead of printing something to paper, you print it to your pb where is is stored and filed for easy access. You may have documents that you can't read on a playbook due to incompatibilities, but if you can print, you can read it on your playbook.
Ease of use, it is why PDF files become so ubiquitous as well. You know if you put something in PDF, people can read it and how do you make a PDF? You print to PDF!
You also have to realize, that while drag and drop is second nature to people like you and to me, others just don't get it. They understand "email" and they understand "print". I asked my friend how he gets files onto his iPad and he says he emails it to himself and he finds that to be a perfect solution. I drag and drop because I know how to, it is way more practical, I think he is a silly neophyte, but I think I am in the minority here.
I see people still emailing files to their cube-mates that share the same LAN and share the same mapped network drive.
Just so I'm clear, the user guide says that "To use Print To Go, you must have Windows XP or later installed on your computer, and your computer and your tablet must share the same wireless network."
At my work, we do not allow personal devices to access the wireless network  so I had thought that I could print to go and then access the document via my Playbook if it was tethered to my phone's internet. I'm presuming that this would be impossible given what the user guide states. Would that be right?
Who's excusing anything? It is a statement of facts as they pertain to the Apple ecosystem. Would you say that it was a lack of attention to detail for Apple to neglect to incorporate support for Windows from inception? RIM is very far removed from removing any iPhans away from their products.
As far as half baked features....well, really, let's not go discussing the plethora of features that were absent from the initial iPhone that have been added incrementally over subsequent releases.
If you assume that I don't give negative opinions on RIM when I see it appropriate simply because I own BB devices, let me assure you that I do. In this instance, I do not believe that one was needed.
Going to give that a shot when I get home from work, that's the only thing I can think of stopping it. I'm using AVG free......is that what you were using?
It worked and rendered beautifully for me too. I can see myself using this feature all the time.
I am having an issue - not with the concept of P2G or with the PB but with the application itself. When I print, it prompts for my BB ID and PW - fine. When it comes to the pairing code, as soon as I hit a key, the window freezes and then closes after about 5 seconds. Any ideas? I have restarted, reinstalled, re-read the forums... :D
Love this. Just printed some docs for a trip to Ottawa for tomorrow. Awesome
