Yup, they will only be available if the playbook was activated in the US or if you have a US ip address.
Not 100% true...
I had music store on mine out of the box in the UK. No podcasts though.
Still have music store on the developer beta of 2.0 as well. But it's all down to licencing issues.
Not sure why the podcast app isn't global though :-(

true i should of said where 7digital allow you to buy songs
i hope that this will be fix beginning with 2.0.
there is no any logic argument that those app can not be available for everyone ...
I totally understand what you mean deocamdata. I, too, find it funny that we all purchased the same item, but some get less than others, all based on where you're from.
I posted a similar question a month back. You might want to check the responses I got. Thanks to those who replied, I saw things from a different perspective.

Still, I'm hoping things change, and we (who do not hail from fortunate lands) would be able to enjoy the same things that others do.
At any rate, with or without Podcast, Music Store, BB News....I still find the Playbook to be a powerful tablet.
Cheers!! :D
Not sure why, but, in the UK the podcast app isn't available on the playbook but 3rd party apps are on a BB phone. I use the BBC podcast service instead.
Not every provider is licensed to distribute the same content. I get different channels on cable TV from my provider (Time Warner) than friends of mine a few miles away from theirs (Comcast). Whether we own the same TV or not is irrelevant.
Can't they just have a different level of subscription..and what is this "whether we own the same tv or not is irrelevant?" Are you saying that you should have the same channels because you have same tvs..or that it would be irrelevant to say having different tvs for different content
It means your provider determines the content you receive, not the device manufacturer.
Actually you can get the update if you use proxy server to trick RIM update server so that it will think that you are from usa.

use proxy and after you are in, click option/software update/check for update button . It will load update of 8 Mb. make sure you uncheck the proxy server settings when you are done. you can buy music no matter where you are.
