Just got a push to the new FB app so I downloaded it and its requesting I accept new terms and conditions in addition to additional terms. The language used in the new T&C's scared the bajesus out of me.

Can anyone make out the rather frightening terms and conditions to me and the rather new disconcerting language being used in laymen terms. I never saw such strong language such as "you should take care to ensure YOU know who YOU know who YOU are dealing with" it gets more scary as one reads on.

Whats with the language and accepting of new additional terms for "client software". Its almost like they dont want the tagline being used on facebook anymore that the playbook used. Now I'm trapped and cannot revert back to the old OS....can I?

    Please advise thanks!

    Why surprised?
It is a social networking app. and you have to be sure who you are dealing with
FB or the creators of the FB app cannot be hold responsible for your social experience.

I guess it all started when ppl in US started to sue each other for all sorts of BS... or I didn't get your point correctly...

I guess my point more directly is I get accepting T&C's one time but additional terms are not needed where I can just use a browser instead. Please dont get wrapped around the axle with people in the US suing each other even though thats true all over the world but more so here lol.

I just want to go back to 1.8 is that possible? Thanks!

Are you sure it wasn't just the FB standard t+c? They have all sorts of caveats to make sure your 12 year old sister doesn't get stalked and slaughtered...so this would be about the FB app and nothing to do with the OS.

OK, I just upgraded my FB to see about these new T&C...

As I see it, it is just RIM saying that this software is provided by RIM for you at no cost.
That you have to make sure you have a FB account and that RIM is not responsible how YOU use the service (FB) and RIM is not responsible if you have any negative experience due to other ppl abusing the service (FB).

Basicaly, it all means: we made a free tool for you to use the FB service, but we are not responsible how you use it or if you have any complains related to the service itself.

    EDIT:
For example: if you send/receive nude pictures of underaged children and the authorities catch you .. RIM is not responsible that you did it using their application for FB.

clearly i dont use fb for your example thats just messed up but I get what your saying. hpjrt I like the 1.8 app b/c it used the PB tagline and more streamlined thats why I wanted to go back to it.

Nothing shady going on here but the t&c's language coupled with the additional terms plus the strong language made me hesitant. then i thought what you said before u said it...why use the app vs the browser. the regular site doesnt make you give up rights or agree to something that is strongly worded and third party permissions yadda yadda yadda

I have no problem with those terms and conditions since I remain a NON-MEMBER of facebook - safe. That way I've opted out of anything they might have otherwise opted me into, no friends, relatives or enemies on facebook.

Simple solution that works for me!

Did some search and could't find a way to downgrade. At least not on Playbook.

    Regarding the T&C ...
maybe my English is not good enough to see what bothers you, but I don't see any problem with these T&C

I see two types of Additional terms:
    1. for the Playbook - nothing special here
    2. for the phone app - here we have the option to send contacts' info to FB and the additional terms specify that this is e personal preference and RIM is not responsible. In general, the first thing I do when installing FB for BB is to disable sending my contacts' and calendar info to FB.

So, no more posts from me

I don't see why not using the latest version (FB Groups enabled + media improvements)
I don't know how to downgrade the FB app
The terms and conditions are not related to PB OS version - You get this update on both 1.8 and 2.0 version of the OS and the conditions are the same.

1.Research In Motion Limited or one of its affiliates ("RIM")...or one of its affiliates? Who is the affiliates and why now is this being implemented? Why would I screw myself now to these F'd up terms. A regular browser doesn't do this crap.

Why is RIM being so shady?!

    2. ADDITIONAL TERMS...what are the additional terms? That it applies to any collections, use, or disclosures of personal information by RIM through Your use of the Client Software. Why is RIM OR one of its affiliates now want this information?

Simply said, the additional terms are clearly giving RIM and/or its affiliate who is not disclosed, plus FB and their 3rd party affiliates access to your data, pictures, and your PB may be accessed, and may be communicated to other Third Party Services outside of RIM’s control or responsibility. Seriously?

I know I am making this out to be a huge thing b/c I feel it is b/c read what your agreeing to by using this App now all of a sudden vs. using the browser. What's next, because I use the PB in my home I agree to let you, your affiliates and third parties to access my homes content. Why don't I just bend over and let you abuse me?

This is a painful decision but I am all but ready to relieve all my BB products and get off this ride. I so like RIM but they just keep finding new ways to **** people off. I so dont like getting vocal and remain quiet but enough is enough already.

Can I revert back to 1.8 anyone know? I am not agreeing to these invasion tactions. If not, does anyone want to buy my playbook? I'm fed up and disgusted b/c I so love RIM and my disappointment comes a place from love.

    Ricardo, you are getting paranoid
Is this the first time you read T&C?

This year everybody started to blame RIM for everything.
If there is a problem somewhere in the world, blame RIM. People in UK were watching porn - blame RIM cause they were using blackberry phones (although RIM offered filter service months ago).

There is no difference if you use the APP or the WEB site.
In both cases you are sharing your thoughts, location, pictures ... with the FB comunity.
This is your personal choice and RIM (by providing you with an app) is making sure you will not blame them if someone gets a picture of you that you don't want to share with him (just an example).

When you made a FB account and add some friends, you know that you are sharing your personal life with them. You know that if someone tags you in a picture, other ppl will see it also. And these ppl might not be in your friends' list.
Basicaly, by making a FB account you already bent over

If you still think that the additional T&C "abuse" your privacy, just delete the application and continue using the web site. There is no need to sell you PB because of this

Dunno, I don't use FB more than once per day.
I see it has the groups option which is nice.

You can choose the source for media: camera, video, media lib (don't remember how it was before)

Okay had 8 hours of rest to sleep and I see I must be the only one that appreciates my own post in that if I had agreed to the former T&C's and that 1.8 had the features of the source for media: camera, video, media lib why the new T&C's, let alone the new additional terms.

Like I mentioned before REGARDLESS if it is an app. When the FB GUI changes with new features and I already accepted the T&C's and I use a browser...the browser is not going to make me accept new T&C's let alone one that supercedes it and then make me accept additional terms.

This isnt about being paranoid or being a freaking child molester or the first time seeing T&C's or nothing else redundant. Its about 1.8 was fine as is, then this upgrade comes along with stronger language newer terms and conditions that supercedes the previous t and c and the only thing I get back from the community is that I must be paranoid, or some other chided commentary.

I'm sorry folks for not being a sheep and following the pack. Bringing this issue to the forefront and calling out RIM and FB and the so called affiliates is in my mind keeping people informed of the privacy rights they have and they will give up. This is an App something remember RIM wanted lots of and they wanted devs to develop.

The point is if these are the apps that people want thats fine if they are willing to give up privacy, but not me. I already gave that up like you said the first time around with the first app. Was that not good enough? How much more information data mining do they want from end users?

Anyway, RIM if you can hear this stop with the T&C's that invade privacy. I dont like em, and I am sure others do not too but they wont post anything here on this topic b/c of the ridicule one gets when posting their point. Who wants to go through being belittled to make a statement?

We need Apps that are across the board that are good not bad like FB who wants all your data pictures etc and your first unborn. BatBoris and F2 thank you for your help. Maybe I can see if my back up has the 1.8 on it and I can revert back to it.

PB is a great product but it has no place for me with Apps that want my info. Apps should be helpful, they should make money for devs, and are good. Not ones that want your info!!!
