Drop the price to free and I'd bite. Why would I spend a dollar for what just might be another fart app? If the app was truly worthwhile, you'd tell us what it was.

This kind of app appeared a few months ago. I'm not sure how well it was received or appreciated.

But com'on if you're going to rip my idea off, how about at least being a little original with it?

    Beginning of my app description:
The surprise app is just that, a surprise. You won't know what the app does until you run it for the first time.
Beginning of the "mystery" app description:
Who doesn't like a good mystery? Because that's excatly what The Mystery App is, until the first time you try it.
I'm all for competition, but every original app I do seems to get ripped off by another dev with no creativity.

For those wanting to check out the original "The Surprise App" you can find it here: Buy The Surprise App - Download The Surprise App - Buy Apps from BlackBerry App World

Come on, LED!! You know here on CrackBerry we love, support, and appreciate our dev members, but ripping off a long-time, well known dev then posting about it in an attempt to promote your app is not appreciated. You've been around here a long time (2009) and as a CrackBerry Master, we need better from you.

PULL this app, rename and re-release it and I promise I will buy it, and will buy 2 copies - gifting one to Shao as a token of your apology.

    How 'bout it?

Edit: Saw this late last night on AppWorld and wondered if it was Shao's, maybe he added a new company name (LED). Glad I didn't buy it and steal from him.

I just wanted to give feedback on your surprise app (bought 2-3 months ago). You even deleted my comment - Even though I was just advising you that you should have hinted that its useful for someone with a smartphone - I have a very basic phone & till today the app is useless. I, with no paypal account, like an bought it. I also noticed that all negative comments are conveniently deleted. How nice. First correct your own mistakes and then point fingers at others.

LMAO, sorry buddy, but you need to come off your big bad dev ego trip. Picking one line that looks similar from a description and trying to call it a ripoff is pathetic to say the least. We actually got the inspiration for our app from a Android app. And I won't lie, the idea of naming our app, The Mystery App is what makes the end result perfect. Our app is centered around it being a mystery so that the initial user can get the affect as well as others that may try it. That is what makes the replay value.

Your app is not really a mystery or surprise at all once it's installed. However ours continues to be a Mystery to many users thereafter based upon the name.

And we have had many other ideas for names, ect to name our app. Just because it happens to cross paths with marketing similarities doesn't mean it's a ripoff. lol

Now how about I go find your Surprise App thread and hijack it to return you the favor?

And if changing a few words in our description will make you feel better, that's no problem. It still doesn't change the fact that our apps are very different.

I could call your apps ripoffs of others based on certain similarities. So please spare us all the ego trip.

If a moderator is so kind. If you can please delete this Shao guys post and any other post in accordance to his, it's hijacking this thread and advertising his own app. Thanks.

Believe me, this app has nothing to do with his beyond marketing similarities. Shao just has a big ego and is pissed that someone could enhance an idea to make it the first of it's kind in App World.

LED, I would ask you to maybe go and check the profiles of the posters that "liked" his post and see what you are up against.. Shao is a well respected MOD/Developer on this forum and actually one of the first developers to find the root access on the PlayBook.. chances are you wont' get his posts removed before yours are.

Well, on the basis of his logic, I suggest any app of his is a ripoff that has any similarities to others made before them. Pah-lease.

Seriously LED? Could you be any more of a D bag? Take your stupid Mystery Surprise App and shove it. Not interested in such a childish money grab!
And what's worse is you bashing a well known member and Dev that made an excellent. This is one of those "You can put lipstick on a pig, but in the end it's still a pig"
He didn't hijack your thread, you hijacked his idea! Go away!

So I just read through this thread and I decided to be the neutral guy to buy this app.
First off, I was not a fan of Shao's app because I don't use BBM so I did not need the app. But at least it provided a service for some.
This new Mystery App is a complete waist of time. It's not an app; it does not provide a service; and so without giving away the "mystery" I'll just say it's just an image! I kept it on my PB long enough to write a 1/2 star review.
If anyone is considering buying this app they would be better off just giving the dollar away to the first person they see on the street!

If anyone did purchase it, refunds are available at [email protected]. Just give them your order number.

Who at RIM approved this farce in AppWorld?

Holy mother of God, App roulette?

Don't spoil the surprise? Are you fricken kidding me? Does it even begin to occur to you that lots of really smart people are on these forums? Why insult our intelligence?

I'd rather give Rim a dollar to save their sorry behinds than see AppWorld turn into a bigger joke than Apple's House Of AppCrapp---although Apple of course provides a load of perfectly useful things that have yet escaped Rim's capability of producing.

What a time in which we live. People choosing a dollar over honor.

Go run a casino, or enter politics.

Playbook has enough issues without this new low... and don't abuse the island of sanity within the Rim universe--Crackberry--by turning it into a streetwalk of personal pimpery.

Personally, I think devs need to demonstrate grace when communicating with customers and in public forums. My purchasing habits are strongly affected by how they portray themselves, and how they deal with problems. Here's an example of a company who have won me over to apps I wouldn't normally have bought based solely on their presence and responses:

    "Quote:

You open the app and get a button to push (and a message to turn up the volume). Then when you push the button you just get a picture (I think it's the girl from the Exorcist) with a scream sound effect. Don't waste your money!

We have no problem with the negative feedback from those who have tried our app, as we are willing to make updates/changes based upon the users. We aren't the type of company to simply throw an app out there and say, screw you we aren't changing it. In fact, anyone who is not satisfied with the app we implore to contact App World support to get a refund... [email protected]. There have been users who love the app and have given us good feedback, but we are always willing to improve based upon the overall feedback.

We are not complaining at all against the costumer. Just want to clear that up.

For those who have bought the app and left complaints, we would appreciate feedback about what you would do to make the app better? We have thought about making it free, but App Worlds ad program is horrible at this time, that is why we decided to charge the lowest amount possible in App World, $0.99. We have other apps in App World that are free to download, so we aren't he type of company that is trying to simply make a quick buck and get one over on you. Our history proves that.

These are really tough times, for RIM, for the world.

The Playbook is no place to play mystery app roulette. A girl screams? What is this, 1976?

Why don't you figure out a way to offer real value, new functionality that helps people solve problems and improve their lives.

The best hope for PlayBook and for RIM are quality tools. We need a better document writer, we need a far better PowerPoint slide tool, we need loads better music composition tools, drafting tools. Why not take a look at the most highly rated apple stuff and find an opening to perform a similar function on PlayBook?

Help people, don't play them for rubes. There's real money to be made and glory to be had, with little to no negative feedback, for developers who embrace the potential of this tool and show RIM how application development is done.

Survey the field and go for it. Aim high. Quality is King.
