Not that i know of but it would be cool. From what i understand 2.1 will have more api's so apps that didnt work from Android previously, might work when 2.1 hits
It likely uses native code which means Android Player won't.. play.
Your best chance is using an emulator such as SNES to play an old console version. I believe N64 emulator is coming out soon.
Is Wii emulator possible on PB? I know its too much to ask, but I just wanna hear from a dev if its doable :)
Where would you plug in the sensor bar??
I think the sensor bar is only to receive the BlueTooth signals from the remote. So it's theoretically possible, but the emulator would be so complicated I doubt that a developer will bother putting the months of work (at least) that would be needed to port it...
Actually, the sensor bar has two infrared lights that the wiimote detects. The wiimote then processes that information along with the accelerometer info and sends it to the wii through bluetooth.
So really the sensor bar isn't actually a sensor at all.
the snes emulator works pretty good :D
Oh I would love this, and other Nintendo games! Without all the porting and sideloading though.
Very happy to hear that :D
There will never be a usable Wii emulator on the Playbook, regardless of the lack of ability to plug in a sensor bar (did you really think that was likely to be the big issue?). PB just isn't powerful enough to emulate Wii. In addition, without root you can't connect non standard bluetooth devices (e.g. a wii remote) to the PB. Those are both much bigger issues than the lack of a place to plug in a sensor bar.
I was able to convert it into a bar file and was able to sign it. And the playbook took it just fine. But there's a problem when I run it. It looks like its not finding a file in the android section of the folders. I manually added the names of the folders but no luck. Its still showing a n64 controller with the same error. I have several android tablets and I'm gonna install the apk to see what it added to those folders and work from there.
There is a GBA emulator so you can use that for the GBA version of Mario Kart
I am actually working on this for BB10. I am making a Qt UI for Dolphin and helping out with ARM dynarec. Currently another dev has got the ARM version working in an interpreter mode. So just need the ARM dynarec now.
For Playbook, that's a no. It's not powerful enough (the GPU that is). Wii strains GPU quite hard. The CPU isn't powerful enough either, but next-gen chipsets like Snapdragon can handle it. Still, we need a GPU that is about 10x faster.
You can connect non-standard bluetooth devices. Wiimote actually works. Yes, using root but a RIM employee has told me this is coming as standard in a future firmware. The API for handling keymapping, joysticks and gamepads is already present in the NDK API!
Yeah sensor bar isn't important. I don't even use it on Wii for PC.
Don't bother, it uses native code. If an android app uses native code, it will install and run but crash when it tries to load the Linux binary. The Linux binary would need to be recompiled for QNX.
All in all, you're best waiting for the Playbook N64 emulator which I'm told will be here next week if Catalyst doesn't run in to any issues.
