Does anyone know if any publishers plan on bringing magazine apps and/or ebooks (not Kobo) to the Playbook? Stuff like GQ, Esquire, Car and Driver, Wired, etc.
Would be nice if there's some actual content to justify turning on the playbook.

Zinio is THE online magazine publisher right now (Zinio - The World's Largest Newsstand).

A Zinio PB app has been demo'd, but is not currently available. I'm pissed because I've subscribed to Car and Driver on Zinio for years. Since their current reader is Adobe Air-based, there's no excuse for it to NOT be available.

Zinio does have a browser-based reader on their site. I've been able to use it, barely, but all in all I'd really prefer to have an offline reader.

Zinio has indicated, repeatedly, that an app is currently being developed or in the testing phase and is expected to arrive shortly - keep in mind though they have been saying this for the past few months. Still, on Black Friday, they responded to a tweet indicating that their app is well on the way and they have plans for special credits to be given for Playbook users to purchase magazines.

The other alternative is Pixel Mags which, a few days ago, tweeted that the Playbook version of the app is coming very soon as it has finished testing.

In short, the lack of magazines will be addressed shortly. It's just a matter of waiting for these apps to come out.

I'll believe it when I see it. Like you said, Zinio has been saying "very soon" for many months now. Still nothing. It's the app I am most interested in, and not even the Androud version seems to work on OS2 beta. Shame.

Good news about Zinio making a pb app. I subscribe to a few magazines...I hope it's not laggy

As pb owners we have to send feedback to sites like this if they don't have a pb app

PressReader is a nice app for reading newspapers.

www.pixelmags.com is soon releasing an app for the pb, it's on their site

It looks like Zinio will not be available this year; twitter response indicates to have a "little more patience".

I'm like you; there are some magazines that Zinio has that Pixelmags has and vice versa. I'm not tied to any one particular company except to say that whoever actually delivers an app first, will get my loyality.

Well I appreciate that it takes times to create an app, I'm growing frustrated and inpatient with Zinio constantly tweeting that "its coming" and "it will be here soon" which they did back in March.

At this rate, I'd say its more likely for the United States to be debt free than it is for Zinio to actually deliver on their app. Oh well - guess its paper subscriptions for another year.

I am waiting for Car & Driver, Motor Trend and Road and Track to make PB apps. I love the motor trend app on the iPad. I hope we get something similar.
