This will be great to know!
Install Advanced Task Killer or another task killer.
Advanced Task Killer bar file
Actually, you don't need to kill apps on either Android (or the PB, as far as I know). After an Android app runs, it does leave a footprint in the OS, and that shows as the row of Android icons at the bottom of the player, when you exit an Android app. The icons are not actually running and the very small amount of memory taken by them is instantly released to the system if it is needed. It is not necessary to kill them. You can kill the residual footprint but it means nothing for the memory actually available for the PB (or Android device). It's the way Android works.
Good to know, I sideloaded for the first time today and was wondering the same.
I'm not entirely sure, but as far as I can tell..
It really is a list of recent applications used in Android Player. They are not running. When you do choose an app on this list however.. It will open the app. You can open multiple apps in Android Player and while any one of them are open, a swipe down from the top bezel will bring up the Android menu, where you can close the app or switch between another running Android app. You will notice that when you close an app, you can re-open it and observe that it will restart the app, not go back to the previously used screen.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I do not have many Android apps yet.
I had that screen and could not call up any of the apps showing on it. I guess I got locked out of the Android Player. Only fix was to restart the pb.
The Apps have to be running or are stored somewhere.. as I sideloaded a app that apparently caused the android player to crash. I restarted and deleted the app, but whenever I get a Android error, the app that caused the crash pops up and there is no way I can find the file or see what's causing the pop-up as that app has been deleted...
the akido reader app by chance?? or whatever its name is...
Does it mean were run an application to kill another application, that's kind of stupid, it means there's always at least one app running in the background.
Are you sure? I got around 580mb from fresh reboot but it got down to 400mb once I ran some android apps.
Ahahaha. I opened the attached picture and noticed the red glow, and then tried to swipe down to see what the notification was lol.
That's ok, because there is an app to close the background app that kills/closes the android apps. Got it ?! :p
Its as far as I can tell :)
I was wondering about this... I've noticed some apps that misbehave and instead of quitting or closing themselves, they tie up the player. The PlayBook still works fine, but nothing can be accessed in the Android Player unless I reboot... wtf?
I believe that they are running somewhat. After sideloading several apps I went into each one and exited out. After setting up each app I exited out of the Android Player and saw that I only had 200MB of ram available. There were no apps open
Very possible, although I hope that's not the case. I will check next time
the question was already answered very early in this thread. The answers telling you to use task killers are wrong. I don't like having the new way the OS runs now with android, but you still shouldn't use task killers.
This has happened to me a few times.. a misbehaving Android app locks up the player so that no other Android apps can be loaded. Only a PB restart cures this. Not great.. nor is it wife-friendly
It'd be nice if there were a PB task killer so I can completely kill+restart the Android Player without a full PB restart (which takes soooo long!!).
There seem to be a problem using the usual PB screen (lower right X) 'close app' for Android apps.
The apps sometimes do not close down, rather they are hidden.
When trying to open that app or another Android app the PB will try to open the old app, and usually crash.
It seems the more dependable way to close an app is to use the Android screen (back< arrow in the lower left corner).
Go back until you get the screen that says 'recent applications', then do a usual close screen.
Tried that.. but the player was completely locked up.. closing it & attempting to open another app just opened it with the app that was locked up. Pressing back, or swiping diagonally in the usual way didn't do a thing :-(
Yep I've noticed my DROID player locks up alot when I open and close like 3 sometimes just 1 app will do it to... Haven't been able to sideload the 2 different task killers I've tried so far either :/ I don't really care to much at this point cuz I'm not a huge fan of most of the android apps that I've come across but when these apps appear to be stuck in the player (running or not) my battery life is being drained like mad until I restart the pb.. That's my biggest quam I guess...
@omniusovermind- can you explain why task killers are so bad?
Side-loading an app killer won't be of much use when the whole player is locked up & unresponsive. We really need the X on the window to kill the player off properly.
