I thought I read previously somewhere that Playbook would run Android Apps, but it looks like that is not the case?
Seems it's BB App World or nothing?

what does "looks like that is not the case" refer to? source, please
Yeah that was ther umor and who knows maybe down the road?
That's a possible future ability. They are probably either working on it or android said "NO WAY!" but in either case you will still get here were not confined to app-world like apple users or android users.
BlackBerry - 4G PlayBook Tablet PC. Get BlackBerry 4G PlayBook Tablet
If you check out that page,it only speaks of App World.I'm sure if Android Apps were going to be available for PB it would be mentioned as it might be a selling point for some?
how does that imply it won't ever run Android apps?
it could be implemented down the road, or as RIM likes to say "as the platform evolves".
so no, it likely won't be there at launch.
I don't think Google would have an issue with the PB running its apps, it would mean more market share for them and it's not like Google has a real hardware to push (except the nexus s...sure). Isn't afterall android an OPEN platform?
Relax Dave....;)
RIM/QNX are still in the process of finalizing a java VM ....android apps run on a java VM
QNX can allow support for a very sophisticated and advanced java VM...so it's not a matter of will it have support...but more of a matter of how the apps will be acsessed from the market place!
Hope this helps!

what are u talking about? I'm not the one who claimed the PB won't run Android apps. Chalk that up the OP. I'm not worried in the least.
Actually my post was not saying the PB would NEVER run Android Apps...as I would have no way of predicting that.
My post was about the fact that I had heard that it would launch with that ability and according to what I was reading thus far it did not appear to be the case, and I was just wondering if that is what others were seeing and understanding as well.
For the record, I never said that you said PB would "never" run Android apps. :) I had merely asked a question re the link and any hint that the PB wouldn't ever run Android apps. Don't confuse that question with my somehow implying that YOU stated that you felt PB would never run apps. that wasn't the intent of my question.
Does anyone know if the playbook will need to be tethered or connected to a Blackberry to receive email? I imagine the same for BBM? That maybe a deal breaker for me as I am not sure how much longer I am staying with a blackberry smartphone
yes it will need to be tethered via the bb bridge
Thanks Howarmat
I guess I will be waiting for the Samsung 8.9 Tab. I don't see me carrying a Blackberry for that much longer. 7 years and I am leaving RIM for the little green robot.
Native PIM apps will come in a software update sometime
