So for the Playbook to be able to run an app, does it need to say "for Playbook"?

No, but the developer must submit a specific version for the playbook. If you want to check if an app has a version for PlayBook and you are using the desktop version of App World, you can look in the list of "Supported Devices" that is present on detail page for each app.

If you log in to app world on your pc and scan apps, only those that are compatible with one of your devices will show. For example, if you own a 9700 and a PlayBook you will see apps only for those devices.

If you access App World via the app on your device, you will see only apps that are compatible with the device. Note that it is not possible to purchase PB apps using the desktop version of app world - you must access app world from your device to be able download and install it.

    Hope that this helps somewhat.
