Just to add to that point. Android 2.x apps that have been repackaged. If the developer doesn't repackage them then you won't be able to use them. Also they will have to be downloaded from RIMs Market. You won't be able to load your apk files, well unless someone comes up with work around
Android apps will run on the Playbook with a Android emulator (said, by RIM, to be by an OS upgrade available later this year).
The Android apps for tablets will not only be available from the RIM AppStore ... Android apps will also be available from Amazon.
This is from the NY Times (22March11)
The Amazon Appstore, which will be accessible at Amazon.com/appstore and through a mobile app, will sell applications for Android phones and tablets. It will also encroach on Googles territory by providing Android users with a new way to buy apps that cuts Google out of the equation.
... For app developers, the biggest difference between Amazons app store and others is that Amazon will set the prices the apps will sell for. Developers will suggest a price, but Amazon could sell them for a different price potentially less than the sale price on the Android Market. Amazon will pay developers the greater of either 70 percent of the sale price, which is the standard revenue-share percentage for app stores, or 20 percent of the price the developer suggests the app sells
As far as Internet phone calls, the Playbook is advertised to have video call capability. Which providers will be on-board when the Playbook is released has not been announced. Since the capability is built-in, it sounds like SKYPE will be available at some time.
For movies, the Playbook is rich with capability to play almost any format, even Flash. Full length movies can be uploaded to memory. To be sure, every movie provider will make an app ... that is their business.
Google maps will be available.
