When RIM enable USB OTG, yes.
I believe these EMUs are Android based on the Playbook. Problem is I don't think Android apps can tap into the PlayBook BT yet even if OTG is available. It would only be for native apps. Unless there's a work around or the Android EMU gets the call function to work in future updates.
That is a coimpletely false statement.
All current emulators on the playbook are native.
Is it possible that they enable the USB OTG on the PB?
Are there any news about it?
I haven't read about it before.
This would be great as this way apart from controlers we could use lots of other USB devices with our PB!
I have a wireles 7.1 headset for the PS3 and would be great to use it with the PB.
Sorry for the offtopic but I'm excited with this notice.
Cheers! ;)
Like I said, I believed they were not . I personally never found out for sure. Well, until now.
I develop Android apps and I know for a fact the QNX Android emulator isn't supporting any BT feature in my apps.
It is a relief that they are native.
The only way a controller would work at the moment (without root) would be to re-wire a controller so that it sends a BlueTooth signal as if it's a keyboard (and mouse if you have an analog control stick), and then go through the configuration files for the emulators and set the specific keystrokes sent by the controller to the correct buttons. As this would require everyone who wants to use this to know basic soldering, I don't think this would be a project somebody would deal with doing for people, especially since RIM will be releasing the BlueTooth APIs "any time", and when they do all of that work would be moot.
Bingo. I was thinking the same thing a while back. Maybe use characters that you wouldn't normally use on a keyboard such as ♀ or ♫ so there wouldn't be any issues if a keyboard ware to be connected. Also, while the left arrow would be one character and up would be another character, up/left would have to be yet another character and this goes for any combination of buttons pressed. A hassle for software programming.
Though getting blue tooth parts is easy and cheap. I always wanted to shut down the blue tooth part in a PS3 remote and add my own blue tooth circuit to it. This way you can program the name and password including all outputs signals into characters.

This is tiny and fits inside the PS3 remote. The only problem is it's TTL this being 3.3 volts yet I only tested for 5 volts in the remote. Nothing three diodes can't take care of. Or we can just wait for RIM lol
Guys you are making this WAY too complicated.
FACT...playbook supports HID Blue tooth profiles:
Supported Bluetooth profiles - User Guide - BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet - 2.0
FACT...HID Blue Tooth controllers exist:

FACT...I have not tried this so if you buy this and for some reason it does not work don't blame me ;)
There are other HID compatible controllers out there as well.
The drawback is the analog sticks are not supported, this will only happen when we get more access to the bluetooth API's. But this might not be a bad option until we get some USB OTG or additional BT support.
If we are lucky RIM will provide controller support natively as part of their obvious push into mobile gaming.
Additional info - Yes Playstation and Wii wireless controllers use HID but it is modified and therefor will not work....yet.
All sounds about right, hopefully they get something like this going soon. That would make the emulators+HDMI cable a million times better.
