Whats the hold up? It was announced months ago that the PB would have it. Does it really take that long to create an app? Or did KOBO win a bid for first dibbs on exclusivity for a few months?

I will agree with that, but Amazon may be waiting fir access to the native SDK or NDK i suppose.

Can't think of a reason that Kindle Apps wouldn't run on the PB. Kobo got the honors of coming pre-installed, but e-reading is becoming so universal I can't imagine that RIM would block all other apps indefinately. OTOH, Amazon is intermittenly slow in updating their apps. I've been waiting for months for the official release of the OS upgrade for the DX (the other versions have had upgrades for a long time now).
So let Kobo get the storefront, and let Kindle open up shop in the background somewhere. Maybe its part of Amazon's practice of locking down all the kindle text? So that you can read and note just fine, but its a rumpus and a half to get even a paragraph of text off the kindle app and into an email or a doc.
Another option for your reading is using Ibisreader or Bookworm, web enabled epub readers. Personally, I'm using Ibis until any app will allow me to sideload.
I've pretty much convinced myself that RIM gave their Canadian brethren a temporary exclusive (6 months?) and are blocking the Amazon app. Amazon is slow to update Kindle apps, but very fast to release them for new devices. Amazon announced the Kindle PB app months ago, but hasn't said anything at all since Kobo was announced.
It is clear that Amazon and RIM don't get along. There is a Kindle BB app, but it isn't even available in the RIM App World - you have to get it directly from Amazon. Since RIM only allows PB apps to go through the app world, I wonder if Amazon is running into a roadblock there.
There is something very fishy going on here. If Amazon and RIM were playing nicely in the sandbox, a Kindle app would have been available at launch. The app itself isn't rocket science.
Can you tell me about Ibis reader? I have some content that I would like to read, but I wouldn't like to SHARE. Is anything I upload shared?
Thanks for the help!
I made this comment a moment ago in another thread about RIM biasing toward Canadian developers. Sure there is definitely a good relationship between Kobo and RIM. But I can't even use the Kindle app on my BlackBerry because it's US Only. Unless Amazon opens up internationally the way that Kobo has, it wouldn't make sense to pre-load Kindle as a useless app to most of the world. I agree that Kindle is a better store for those of you who can access it on your phones and tablets, but until all of us can access it, it makes far more sense to be pre-loaded with something that works for everybody. They still haven't even made the PlayBook app! You can't blame RIM for that. I agree that there should be a Kindle app in App World whenever Amazon gets around to making it, but Kobo was and still is the best option as the pre-loaded app for the most people.
While Rim are a canadian company, their primary concern is their own benefit like any other company and to artificially restrict the availability of an app on a new platform that is vital to their future makes zero sense.
The Kobo app was actually announced first during the actual playbook announcement with the Kindle app following separately the same day.
This probably comes down to rim not requiring companies to put their apps in app world and amazon being more than happy to keep control of things and to make any assumption that rim is blocking an app that would be very useful to them and in no way competing with them since rim don't sell content. It is clear that Amazon and RIM don't get along. There is a Kindle BB app, but it isn't even available in the RIM App World - you have to get it directly from Amazon. Since RIM only allows PB apps to go through the app world, I wonder if Amazon is running into a roadblock there.
E-mail from Amazon said they are "in the process" of building an app for the playbook, Fortunately that mean that there will be a kindle app but unfortunately their is no information on the time and when the kindle app will be relased or available on the playbook.
I agree .. we need a Nook or Kindle full function reader.
KOBO is junk: you can't presently load your own pdf's onto it
