    Project Preferences -> C/C++ Build -> Settings -> QCC Compiler -> Output Control

    Uncheck "debug (-g)"
    move optimization from 2, to 3.

    This changed the SNES emulator from running at a quarter speed on auto frame rate, to full speed. I'm thinking this will go a long way in other SDL (and any) related projects as well.
