Aside from the issue of RIM artificially inflating the app count by approving individual books as "apps", I dont think there should be a place for adult material in the appstore.

I kinda like the way that Apple curates their app store. Because there is no pornography I have no problems with letting my kids browse for new apps unsupervised. I think a lot of people feel like this, and would prefer BB app market to be a place where they dont run the risk of having their kids introduced to bondage.
There is a place for pornography, and as far as I know there are plenty of places people can get it. An appstore doesnt need to be one of those places...
