I've been using StreamingNow for some time now, but half the time it can't play movies with 900kbps bitrate without buffering when I have no problem streaming 1080p videos from youtube :/
So I'm in the lookout for something else, hell if it can play without server and directly from a network drive all the better.

The andoid file managers, Ghost Commander, ES File Explorer, and X-Plore File Manager, can stream video from your PC over your local network without the need for any server to be running on your PC. Ghost is free in app world, ES and X-Plore both need to be sideloaded.

Any suggestions for a Android Video Player that works on PB ? ES says no application available and Ghost Commander just throws an error at me (Action not supported)

Kalemsoft requires a server running on your PC to work.

Here's a list of the android players I can use on my PB- mVideo Player is probably the best. Note that you can only stream videos that can be played natively on the PB. What type of vids are you having problems with?

KalemSoft Media Player, supports DLNA and streams directly from a NAS or other compatible sources if you have, not needing the Pc

Will check KalemSoft (at 7$ it's not much, but from where I'm from it's still far away from impulse purchase territory)
@pacoman03 mainly mp4 and avi (had to learn what formats the pb supports because StreamingNow also only supports "native" PB formats)

Try ES again- it should stream videos on your networked PC. If you get a message saying "no application available', then try tapping and holding on a video. Then, from the pop up dialogue that should appear, choose "Open as", then "Video". Hopefully, you'll get an "open with" pop up which should include, at least, "ES Media Player" and "Movies". Choose either, give it a few seconds to buffer, and see what happens. Doing this will probably only be necessary to stream AVIs. MP4s should give you the "open with" dialogue by simply tapping on them.

So................for me, tapping on an AVI using ES will bring up this dialogue-

I'm guessing you don't have either of these players installed, thus you get the action not supported message. But, tapping and holding on the same video allows me to bring up this dialogue, and all of the players listed are capable of streaming AVIs.

Z30, and yes, it's a bit on the heavy side...

I gave up on plex some time ago. Looks like it will be ES for now and stalking Kalemsoft for a sale.

I run ES file explorer on PB and Z10. Does a great job. Long press on your file choice will usually bring up additional options. has a nice easy music player as well.

Kalemsoft media player is pricey, but I think definitely the best app for streaming. As good as what you can find on iOS and Android app stores.
