People have posted links to xxx.BAR files which can be sideloaded onto the pb. You will have to look for those posts and then how to sideload. There are not a lot of them but there are some.

I have for the most part only found .bar files that can be sideloaded for OS2beta which I don't plan on going to unless RIM fails on their promise to have OS2 ready sometime in February. Is there any other places they might be available?

Unfortunately it looks like illegitimate app stores will only ever work on rooted playbooks since RIM blocked installing apps through localhost. You can sideload them from your PC however. I do like that RIM allows this sideloading, makes testing and developing a lot easier. They blocked localhost install to prevent pirate app stores on stock devices.

Heres my last public release for Desktop Browser if you want it (OS1 compatible).

    http://www.filearchivehaven.com/down..._1.0.5.206.bar

Unfortunately most other bars for OS1 I have found have come from the seedy underbelly of the internet and not many other people seem to have free os1 bars floating around.
