Some people complain about books being regarded as apps, others complain about the Android apps being of low quality, and there are even people who complain about the number of apps (they need only two apps: netflix and skype). Well, you won't hear me complain as long as RIM can surprise me once in awhile. And this morning they managed to surprise me with their new offerings (see photo). By the way, don't blame RIM for this in any reply to this post. Clearly there's a market for it otherwise it wouldn't be offered. Furthermore, I am happy there are not 1000 must have apps a 4.99 euro. It would cost me a week's salary!

RIM has jumped the shark as they say in the technology world. But I thought certain magazines were banned by RIM from availability through the Zinio application...those "Sexy..." apps must be considered family-friendly by the censorship committee within the hallowed halls of Research In Motion.

While I agree with the OP that we should not blame RIM for the fact that some of my colleagues shamelessly exploit consumers' craving for "quality" apps of this kind, I reserve my right to complain about RIM's failure to provide effective filters for more conservative tastes.

I don't think that RIM should be censoring apps and micromanaging content (beyond legal requirements) but there ought to be a way for consumers to find apps that interest them and not have to sift though tons of stuff that is subjectively uninteresting or offensive.

The funny part is if you follow Alec Saunders, on his twitter he was talking about how RIM can ban porn or other material if they see fit, as a justification for banning a camera shutter mute app, which makes no sense as they're not even the same thing.
Then these apps get through.
RIMs app strategy is a joke.
And someone on their staff thinks regular things are used for perky purposes, personally Id be worried about their staff members they seem to see filth where it isn't, and let clear filth through.

I saw all those. the thing that annoyed me the most was the quantity of them. and what usefull app I might have missed because it got pushed off by these. RIM should limit the number of submissions to 3 a day per devolper, that way we dont get bombarded with apps like this. they can still be submitted, but they will trickle in as opposed to taking up the new app real estate

Just set mine to Mature 17+ and the problematic apps disappeared. I wonder if it gets rid of the books as well?

Thanks, this is a good start. The App World search function is really weak and it is not possible to control what appears in the result set. In some future version of App World, I would prefer to see advanced custom filters so that I can avoid certain authors and single-titled eBooks, puzzles etc.

I think the difference is these girls aren't naked, just scantily clad like you would see in Magazines available on Zinio for BlackBerry.

I was under the impression that Zinio censors the adult magazines by themselves because they have a policy for the NSFW content. If you go to the website, those magazines don't show the Apple or Android availability either.

The more the merrier. I am one of those people who want a million apps for the PB. Why? Because one man's trash is another man's treasure. I don't need a farting app, but I guarantee you that someone out there will. Having 1,000 farting apps does not affect me in anyway. If I need an app, I'll search for it so there's no need to comb through the rest. Why people only want a few quality apps in AppWorld is beyond me.

A) 20 great apps
B) 20 great apps and 1,000,000 useless apps.

I will take choice B any day. Long live freedom of choice.

But keep in mind BDSM is one of the larger fetishes out there (and I don't recall the study and cant find it at work) but a couple of years back (less than 5) the number 1 fetish for men was actually to have a woman take control, (by large survey). Most people don't realize this falls under BDSM. Just some food for thought.

We do censor hard core porn. So long as the scantily clad women and books are labelled appropriately as adult content we let them through. And yes, we can do a better job of filtering. On my list.

You make a fair point, and I don't have a problem with depictions of consenting adults, but there is a line between s&m and depictions/descriptions of "non-consensual" behaviour. I haven't read any of these books, so maybe it's not fair to judge, but based on the descriptions it sure looks like some of them are nearing or even crossing that line. I was quite surprised to see some of them make it past the censors.
