damn. i was really hoping "security wipe" wasn't going to be the answer.
my last hope before that was to find a solution here on crackberry and the solution seems to be the conclusion i already came to.

Make that 3 of us. :(
I had this same issue with android apps before doing a security wipe this morning. I wonder what the common cause is?
This must be a bigger issue than people realize... Mine is the same way... I have 2 Playbooks, one plays Android apps and the other doesn't. Unfortunately the one that doesn't is the one that I do EVERYTHING on...
I noticed when I was upgrading them, the package that was being delivered to the one that doesn't work with Android was at least 100MB smaller than the other. They both started from the same version....
I think that as more of the "common" users of the PB start trying apps that are Android and find that they don't work they are going to be confused (since they really can't tell the app is an Android app or not)...
The security wipe solved my issue. All is right with the world now.
Occam's Razor.
Same problem here.
The worst part is that my playbook simply won't back up itself - the desktop software always stops in the middle of a backup.
I really don't want to "secure wipe" everything out of my playbook.
